Hey y'all. Anyone do a r12 to 134a changeover on a 92 Legacy 2.2? I got the standard kit, but the low side fitting on the car is unusually small, (kit adapter too big), so I called around to everyone, including the dealer, who said I'd have to change out that a/c line for the newer style for only $200+!(just the part).
Ok, there's gotta be a way to charge this stock system.

Idea. Can I just pull the valve stem, adapt some brass fittings from the car to the 134 fitting and charge it?

Thanks !

Being in refrigeration I can say if you are converting to r134a you would need to recover, flush and vacuum the system down. I think the compressor might be the same but not sure. Why not charge with r12 again? Or a hot shot or one shot r12 replacement?

Mucho appreciate the idea, but we are already at the refill/charge system point, and just need r134a adapter, low side, solutions.

Probably any auto parts place can get the adapter for you to run a set of gauges. I have my old lines for my a/c I will let go cheap of that will work. Let me know.

napa if you have them around you sells individual high/low side valves, much better quality than autozone/advance.

i ended up finding this out when the little low side one fom the cheapo kit didnt fit right on a 72 350sl.

to do a proper conversion you need to change out the reciever dryer, drain the compressor, and change the seals.. the put in pag oil
r12 isnt sold anymore, well most places, and you have to pay an arm and leg for a small amount

Ask your local mechanic if it is ok to use this in a car. I use it in my refrigerator compressors at work.

i used a product called freeze12 to redo the r12 in the 72 benz, swapped nothing but the refridgerant, works like a champ...

What did you end up doing?

I fixed the problem by putting on my frick'in glasses, (the ones with a Brain attached to'em), and found the correct adapter whithin the kit of adapters, which was mysteriously invisible before. (Althought it may have been some paint chips residue kicking in from my younger years).

Then it was the basic a/c and pag oil charge. Now, if I could just get it to work ???

(started a new topic: A/C won't engage 92 Legacy . . . )
