help identify the sound

happens on abrupt decel like snapping the throttle close or downshifting or in the sound clip backing up in reverse.

does not happen when stopped does not happen when the motor is reved when stopped and does not happen when accelerating it should be obvious in the sound clip.

Honestly, there's too much noise in the recording. Kind of hard to pin point out the noise you're talking about.

Where is the sound coming from exactly? ie engine bay? suspension? interior cabin?

It's hard to get a good look at the mounts I can see one but not really the other.. the tranny mount I would have to check.

But I was thinking about that driving around yesterday given it happens everytime almost when the drivetrain relaxes I was thinking a few of the following things.

1. pitchrod
2. engine mounts
3. transmission mounts

However I posted this video on youtube I just happen to be filming my engine from inside the car reving the engine and looking at movement that day.

Well, I was leaning towards front axles. But that's not the sound axles makes. That's one odd sound for sure.

Can you access to some jack stands? Jack up the whole car and get one person to drive the car and the other person to check for the noise below it.

That would be quite a feat.

there could be alot wrong with it. The best way to find out if it is tranny related or a diff issue is to do what 2.5GT said. I seen something similar before and when i got it on a lift and had someone rev it up...it turned out to be the pre-muffler

Do like you were doing before with watching the engine while you rev, but instead, put the car in reverse, e-brake on and step hard on the brake, use the same foot to bring the engine up to about 2000rpm or so, then start to release the clutch, and watch the engine movement again. Take a video if you can.

It sounds like an engine or trans mount problem to me.

I'd have to get another set of jack stands but I can do that.. I know for sure it would do it.. going to be a little bit of work since I will be filming and in the car revving.

+1 on getting the car totally off the ground. On the 1st sound clip, it sounds like your exhaust is rubbing on a crossmember or a bad mount.

Just slowly release the clutch using a long stick tied at the end to the clutch pedal (not to slip off).... ask me how I know :grin:

Lol I did something stupid like that but was driving slow trying to press all three at once and stalled big time.


Hahahaha!!! I had my Loyale up on all 4 and had to slowly let the clutch out to engage.... after a few failed attempts, i figured, let it out (clutch) slowly, and it'll engage. Matter of fact, you can jerk the clutch in and out, while looking underneath. Found my loose heatshield that way.





You can always take a ride up here, and I'll go thru it with you. I know its a ways, but thats all I can really offer atm. :smt102

Lol that would be great not sure if I posted the two youtube video from yesterday but in the second video I pointed out that one axle that looked to be a reman with 1335 or whatever it had on it. Not sure if its the inner since I have only seen the outer cv fail before
