my neighbor is a salesman, sell this and that, but he said that he is selling a "car vitamin". his sister is my friends mom, and she "said" that in her 93 Lincoln town car she went from 16 around town to 24 mpg, he said he can get an extra 150 miles out of his tank in his Honda element. he said that it puts some kind of coating on the cylinders and gets rid of all of carbon build up, and it supposedly burns the fuel faster and more efficient.

has anyone tried something like this, i am really skeptic, and dont really trust the guy, and dont want to pay $20+ for some "car vitamin" for it to not work, and or blow up my engine. any opinions on these kind of products?

If this guys product was as good as this guy is advertising then Billy Mays's crew would advertise it! :lol: Do some research and see what proof this guy has to testing this "vitamin additive". See if he has been supported by any other major auto places. And find out what he puts in this stuff.

probally a $20 can of 99% ethonal, <1% of methanol, and a-1 jet fuel (kerosene grade fuel)

The only products one should get to increase the fuel efficiency of their car, are ones that do a PROPER job of cleaning them, like subaru upper engine cleaner every 10K miles for example. Anything else is snake oil, the fuels today already have a bunch of additives in them that clean the cars. Carbon build up today is a RARE thing, generally only happens if a car is running like a sack of shit in the first place.

The other one, is fricken running the right octane. Always run the octane above your minimum for the car. Over here for example, a my 2.2 LX had a sticker under the fuel flap saying "MINIMUM 95 RON" And we have an option of 91, 95 or 98. So, i always ran the car on 98, but could have used 95. There's a girl at work who was running her JDM TS-R (2L dohc) on 91, i told her she should be at least using 95. A month later she reports back to me saying not only is the car much more peppy, it's using WAY less petrol now! Surprise! it's Magic!

^ Thats kinda weird. Our cars run on 87 here. I run my car on 87. I wouldn't run it on 89.. as there is no point. I think using the fuel the car was rated for is probably the best bet.

I think i know this snake oil your talking about. Some guy used it in his truck here at work and said he was getting much better mileage. I have no clue what it is though. He explained it to me one day.. but he's always running his mouth off about stuff so I forgot WHAT it was called.. and what the hell it even does. Some type of addative or something. I forget.

RON, what they use in the rest of the world, is typically 4-5 digits above pump/mean rating, what you have in the states. So my 95RON, is your 90Mean octane. I run my car exclusively on 98RON, about your 93. And you gotta at 18psi :p

Wait.... really?! I thought you guys had Octane levels as high as we do.... We only have two grades: 93 and 95.5-ish (converted to US octane rating). So you're actually running fuel that's lower than intended for that car.... Is Australia the same way?

it depends on where you go in japan yama. the premium fuel in japan is around 101 octane.

my state side car take 89, but i run 92. the car runs better, better mpg, and less chance of detination.

The car world is full of crap like this. 99% of it is total garbage. But there are a lot of people who buy their spiel and spend money on worthless products, and swear up and down that their car runs better or feels more "peppy." Its all in their head. Placebo effect.

Yup, you guy's are lucky with your fricken 100RON. And the subaru community here knows most the turbo subies are tuned for 100, yet best we have is 98 (ditto with AU). Sad thing is, most people here run their turbo's on 95ron, it's little wonder subies have a big end bearing reputation here, everyone cheaps out on the fuel at the pump, then scratch their head as the car clack clacks away.

Rest assured, i run mine on the best possibly available, and it's only 2 digits off tune to my knowledge, not enough to cause issues.
