Something rubbing while driving

So I have a 97 BK and ever since I got it, its made a sort of rubbing sound, like thin metal on metal, I thought it was the brake dust shield on the rotor, because it just seemed like the only part that would make a sound like that, but I cant see anything wrong with it. Its coming from the front left, and I would appreciate any advice or experience anyone else has with this, its driving me insane.

It could still be the shield even if it looks good. It could just barely rub up against the rotor. Happened to me.

Is it a constant rubbing or is it short little metal on metal contacts that gets faster the more the wheel is spinning??
Does it make the sound when driving straight? Is is more pronounced when making a hard RIGHT turn?


Well hey, actually if you wanna find out if its the shield just use a long screwdriver and a soft hammer, like a rubber mallet, and just slightly tap the shield away from the rotor, just slightly bending it away. It won't even look like you did anything. Just do it through the spokes of the rim, but if you have steel wheels, then you'll probably have to take the wheel off.

This happened to mine when we must have accidentally hit the shield with a strut when we were changing them out. My car would make a grindy rubby sound ONLY when I'd make hard right turns. My front left shield would make the sound when it had all the cars weight on it. Slightly bent it away and it was fine!

You can just use your hands to bend the brakeshield away from the rotor. An easy test though is to rotate the rotor and see if it contacts.

You should probably service the caliper so the pads float correctly while you're in there.

I had the same prob on my BE but mines was the cat cover
