this morning i go to warm up my car like every other morning. i go back in my house to do a couple things and then head out about 5 or ten minutes later. i hear a hissing noise like a hose and ask myself why the hell is my dad watering at 5 in the morning? then i get to see my car and it is engulfed in steam or smoke. it was really early so i couldnt really tell which it was. and of course by the time i got my hood opened it had stopped so i couldnt see where it was all coming from. since then i have had no issues with it. the only things now is that there is a weird suction sound around the passenger floor by the fan motor and there is a constant weird smell coming out of the vents and the AC compressor is constantly going. also occasionally the belts are making a weird noise. any input is great

Fluid on the ground? What was it?

my guess is you have either a cracked or ruputered ac line. The smell is most likely your freeon dumping into the car and your ac is trying to suck it threw. IDK just a quick guess. I know if your ac is empty you will hear a hissing/sucking noise from the passenger side which is where the compressor is located. Good luck

Yeah, I would not drive the car around if there is Freon leaking. Its cancerous.

take a can of spray, like the stuff u use to spray computer monitors and while the car is running spray it over the ac compressor. If there is a crack, you will see it get sucked in. Or, if your a smoker, light a cig and blow the smoke over the same spot, easier to see and you get you nico fix

yeah i didnt see an fluid on the ground and all my fluid levels are where they should be. it seems that the AC compressor and the suction sound only happen after the car is a little bit warmed up. heck ill take up smoking if thats what it takes to fix my baby haha.

Are you running defrosters? The a/c engages with the directional setting is at the windshield. Try adjusting to floor or something and make sure the a/c is off. That way you will see if the a/c clutch disengages.

well i tried blowing smoke and nothing seemed to get sucked in (only benefit of living with smokers i guess haha). tho now the smell is mostly gone there just seems to be a bit just from in the vents that i can only assume is excess. so it seems that the freon is all gone cause now the AC compressor isn't constantly on. also my AC doesnt blow cold anymore so im sort of assuming it just ran out freon. could the smoke/steam have just been a sh__ ton of freon bursting out?

Yes being an HVAC guy it will come out fast and hard. Lol at that statement!

well now that all the freon is gone everything seems to be doing alright. so i can only assume you guys were right. would have taken me days to figure that out. you guys are the most helpful and quick responding forum ive even been on. camaro forums are useless!!! gonna look at the car more later tonight and make sure that there isn't something else as well. and is it safe for my car if i continue to drive it? would rather not take the lifted truck to school tonight with the tiny spots that i can barely fit the leggy in if it can at all be avoided

You will need to find that leak and nitrogen is the best to find leaks. It is dry and will not hurt the enviromnent. I doubt you have a tank of nitrogen though!

It's safe to keep driving it. Keep the A/C off and don't use the orange defroster setting on the HVAC unit, just in case. The low pressure sensor is supposed to protect you but if you run the A/C with low freon the compressor will seize up.

yeah i just disconnected the power from the AC clutch so i think it should be alright.
