View Full Version : Air in cooling system
I have a 2000 vintage Legacy Lancaster (Outback) and ever since it has had the front end done (cambelt, water pump etc) and has had the radiator out it gurgles when you first start it. How do I get the air out of the cooling system ? :smt017
With the car completely cold, open the radiator cap and the screw on the other side of the radiator. Fill the radiator. Start the car (with the cap still off). Level will drop as the car warms up, keep filling the radiator. Keep going until it reachest operating temperature and the level quits dropping. You can accelerate the process by squeezing on the radiator hose but being patient works just as well.

jack the front of the car up first though.
Thanks guys, I ran the front of the car up on my ramps then followed suggested procedure. It worked a treat. Cheers

Some have a bleed screw on the top of the radiator at the opposite end to the filler cap.
