-2003 Subaru Legacy L-

Looking for cheap headers, heard the eBay Borla replicas were good, but I didn't search them yet. Found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUBARU-I ... ccessories (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUBARU-IMPREZA-LEGACY-GT-1997-2005-2-5L-HEADER-EXHAUST-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZYearQ3a2003Q7cMakeQ3aSubaruQ7cModelQ3aLegacyQQhashZitem255d3fb94eQQitemZ160478247246QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories)

Will that fit? I know it says it will, but I wanna double check with you guys first. Or is there a better alternative for the same or less price?

And has anyone had any experience with JDM mufflers? I was looking at these two:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Universa ... ccessories (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Universal-JDM-2-5-Inet-Square-Oval-Tip-Muffler-Exhaust-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZMakeQ3aSubaruQ7cModelQ3aLegacyQQhashZitem2eafe4bf93QQitemZ200519499667QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-2-5- ... ccessories (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-2-5-Inet-4-Carbon-Chamber-N1-Tip-Muffler-Exhaust-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZMakeQ3aSubaruQ7cModelQ3aLegacyQQhashZitem2eafe4bf94QQitemZ200519499668QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories)

Thoughts? I'm looking for something to make the car sound better but not too ricey. Looking for low profile as well, I hate big ass mufflers that are way too obvious.

Thanks guys!

yeah I have the 2.25" one sitting in my basement just waiting to go on my car

i was looking into headers like that too with 2.25-2.5 all the way back ... just havent had the funds yet

i do agree those mufflers look way ricey. what i did on my muffler was put a spintek single chamber with just a 2.5 or 3 inch tip out the back and it looks good to me and doesnt scream "pull me over" at first looks.

also make sure you find a chambered muffler nothing full flow because when i was running a full flow my mpg went from 20 to 10 and i lost all torque.
for the muffler just find something thats is going to help your car performance with a nice rumble dont go for the looks unless you want that gawdy muffler hangin out the back of your car ... just my 2 cents :smt023

yeah theyre speedyracer headers and 2.5" mandrel bent piping with an 18" resonator..

the butt dyno says power gain and i did get an mpg gain too

plus it sounds awesome

Completely disagree, pure chamber mufflers like flow master sound like crap on our cars, my vibrant is a "strait through" design, sounds great and no effect on my mpg

muffler choice shouldn't effect mpg, it's too far back too really make a big difference

if your norm is only 20 you must do all city driving, and to halve that with just a muffler says something else is up

Thanks for all the replies guys. I just want a muffler that isn't freakin huge and hangs really far down. I do a lot of back roads driving here in PA and I don't want the thing scraping all the damn time. Plus I hate even being able to see the muffler in the first place. Just looking for something low profile.

Thanks again.

im a muffler lovin monkey. my experience with mufflers on subaru's is this.... i went to install a "tasteful, non ricey, quietish muffler" on the leg wagon i used to own. all cats still present, and i hated it :smt013 . prolly muffler design, but the exhaust pulse from the thing resonated into the wagon butt, and cause an unbearable bass that made my brain hurt  . i then went to a straight through muffler, got it cheap, used for 30bux, cleaned it up, chopped and torched the tip, and slanted it dirty (the right way, another topic for another post), and behold, no more awful sound :smt023 . looked non ricey, because i am good buddies with my muffler guy and he let me nitpick angle and rotation, pipe routing etc etc (he gets tipped well, lol).

the sound, was very nice, with the straight through, the only caution i would give is that if you go with a straight through canister style muffler, find some pics online of some good canister muffler installs, and replicate that. i'm sure you have seen hondas with *mad drift slant* :smt017 which is honda speak for *off center and pointed at the earth somehow*. i still dont know why they go OVER the suspension on those. you can go under it. unless your shocks are blown or your muffler ninja cant hang a good pipe, you wont scrape, and you get less bends that way. -sigh- if you do go the fart pipe route, which i do all the time  , make sure you save up and get some decent rims. after i installed mine, i went and got some 17" bbs style rims. they complemented each other well.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Universa ... ccessories (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Universal-JDM-2-5-Inet-Square-Oval-Tip-Muffler-Exhaust-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZMakeQ3aSubaruQ7cModelQ3aLegacyQQhashZitem2eafe4bf93QQitemZ200519499667QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories) - its ok. look good on your year, not mine, since you have the newer 2000 style

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-2-5- ... ccessories (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-2-5-Inet-4-Carbon-Chamber-N1-Tip-Muffler-Exhaust-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZMakeQ3aSubaruQ7cModelQ3aLegacyQQhashZitem2eafe4bf94QQitemZ200519499668QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories) - no.

http://www.hksusa.com/images/?id=2061 - yes. tough to beat the real thing, but the carbon muffler on ebay is trying to look like this one, look for one thats more like this if your going carbon, otherwise it WILL look ricey, lol.

im not trying to be a muffler nazi, just givin ya my 2 cents

when i was rockin a straight thru design my car really just didnt like it ... maybe it just wasnt the right muffler or something but i had a horrible time with it. but as it seems everyone likes the canister design ... maybe i should start re thinking a new exhaust :smt023

also the whole chamber muffler resonating ... well yeah its true its pretty fuckin loud on the freeway from 55-75, after that it quiets down

I run completely straight through exhaust from the header to the exhaust tip (aside from the HF cat) and noticed no change in power or fuel economy vs the el header and the stock cat-back.

maybe your 02 sensor was in a bad mood and was taking vengance on you by jacking up your fuel map? if you go back to free flow, try resetting the computer by leaving your batt unhooked over night. if that dosent help see if one of your o2 sensors is being lazy :smt015 . common subaru problem, prolly other cars too now that i think about it. the wave coming from the 02 sensor takes on a strange decaying shape and messes up your world. happened to me. got it hooked up to one of those wave view-y things and it showed that the wave form was not nice and pretty but, sort of a strange square/saw hybrid :smt017 , and not at all how it was supposed to look. ( i think the waveform is supposed to be square, but i couldnt remember the name of the ocilliscope earlier, so who knows... ) anywho that might assist ya.
