basically a drunk guy (not proud of that one) crashed his Saab while doing 155 MPH (250 Km/h) he wasn't found till the next morning and the engine was found 100 meters away from the car. They guy walked away without a scratch.

I am wondering since Subarus are known for safety as well if you know of some stories like this. I have searched but usually get some teenagers wrx or sti crashed and not any info about injuries or lack there of.

There's the WRX near Harrisburg PA a few years ago. He was on Rte 83 and got caught between the back of a stopped tractor trailer and the front of a moving tractor trailer...

I was considering buying this Outback for it's engine about a year ago. The guy who owned it said that his son and three of his buddies took the car out for a joy ride on some twisty and tiny mountain backroads (they wanted to see how fast they could go down this particular road), entered a corner way too fast and flew off the side of the mountain's edge. All four of them walked away without an injury: I met the son and he was functioning fine.

About a week ago, I witnessed a Fozzy get t-boned by a Buick, flip over and land on its wheels. When I ran over to check on the driver, a woman who was 32 weeks pregnant walked up to me assumingly calm and collected. SHE WAS THE DRIVER OF THE FORESTER! Not a freaking scratch on her. I told her that her Subaru saved her life and she thankfully agreed.

also i went to school with a lady who slamed her '83 subaru into a concrete median in colorado doing 45 (in the snow) and she walked away from it.

Pillarless doors are not only badass (fuck you subaru for dropping them) but it means seriously strong pillars :D

That's what i've heard at least, but yes, subaru's are renown down here for their safety. The BH was the first ever car to get the ANCAP 5 star rating way back when too (Aussi's version of Euro NCAP)

I don't think it improves the safety. Striving to be a safer car is the reason for safety.

i go by the IIHS crash tests which give all new subarus a top safety pick and they do a offset crash test instead of slamming them into a wall then i came across this today

apparently the new 2011 legacy and outback only earn 4 stars in front and side impact crashes, the legacy gets 5 stars for roll over and the outback gets 4 stars for the roll over.

i herd some crazy stats about how only 9% of all car accidents are roll overs but roll overs account for something like 90% of all the deaths in car acidents. honda and i think subaru started doing roll over testing a few years before the IIHS. but i cant remember where i herd those stats so they may be off.

Saab does roll over they also take real world data and do the moose test. They hit a moose dummy at 40 mph so its basically 500 pounds hitting the top of your wind shield at 40 mph

i think all cars should pass a moose test to see how well the esc works in vehicles. i know that the subaru system is very slow to react, my mom had a 08 legacy 2.5i limited, i was driving in the snow, hit a deeper patch of snow and i spun, on the highway, even with the vdc, i did not hit anything luckly because i was not going very fast, but i had a hyundai sonata i think it was a 2006 for a rental car after one of my familys cars got in an accident, but i drove the columbia river gorge in the snow all packed snow, and the sonata did fine even without snow tires, the esc would kick in right away unlike the subaru system.

AWD does not equal better in the snow.

AWD cars will be more likely to spin in the snow than a FWD because you are directing some power to the rear of the car. Take a car that is already nose heavy, give it a low traction situation and power to the rear tires and voila, you spin. FWD Sonata on the other hand will understeer as long as you don't do something stupid like slam on the brakes or whatever.

I wonder what Subaru's reasoning behind the delay of the side curtain airbags going off was. If you notice the Saab's goes off right away on all impacts while on the legacy it goes off a few mili-seconds later in front impacts.

actually i herd something about this delay business and if i remember hearing right it was due to something about roll over wrecks or something idk...
