Figured it was about time to make a mr thread, here it goes. Bought the car back in March of '08 with 112k miles. Engine was mostly stock, just snorkus delete, borla's and Sti exhaust lenghtened to fit the BD chassis. The Morrettes, ver 5 spoiler, fogs, jdm tails, side lights and custom grill were done by the previous owner as well as the h&r springs with kyb gr2 struts and bronze painted outback wheels. I took it to the local quarter mile track (I live on the same road about one mile down from it ) and squeezed a 15.9 @ 88mph. It was my daily driver and a fun car to autox, working just fine for me. So now on to a few pics. (More pics in my intro thread) viewtopic.php?f=5&t=12378 (http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=12378)

Then on Dec 24th 2008 at 7:55a.m. (yes I remeber the time my engine flatlined) tragedy struck, engine shut off as I was pulling into my parking spot at work, Wouldn't fire, my heart sunk, I fell to my knees and could see the ghost of the ej25 rising up towards to the twinkling Pleiades stars. It was over, done for, assumingly it seemed a valve had bent, as it lay in the oil pan, rings in the intake next to the cold, cold throttle body, piston shards everywhere in between. Worst of all I had to call my wife (gf at the time) to come get me, and now I will be seen leaving work in a Purple Toyota Rav4 :smt078

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2010/10/IMAGE_051-1.jpg

Pulling the ol ej25 was so painstaking to the heart it took a couple days of agony, but it seperated for the last time. Block toasted, heads smashed barely recognizable, time to find another bd engine.

But wait, JDmland called (not really I called them) just one week of searching an ej20g came up on ebay at an amazingly attractive price! So the transplant began, towed behind my Suburban it made the way to Tintmasters (http://www.tintmasters.net/), a shop specializing in Subaru performance here in town, just a couple miles from where she rumbled last. So Jason, Shane, Kyle and Eric go to work.

And now after just one week at Tintmasters, and less than a month after the worst Christmas eve ever, she roars again! I've only had it back to the track once for a couple runs. Best I could get after spinning all four tires through first and part of second gear a 14.8 @96mph. Had a few runs where I dropped the rpm but would bog down real bad but had 15.2's @ 98, (how does that work?) Anyways washed it up, removed the ver 5 and finally got to Autox again this last weekend and it was great, makes me want to mod the car some more!

Here's a slip for now, crappy pic but I'm going to try to scan it at work and darkening to get the numbers to pop out.

About time you made a members ride thread! I know you kept saying you were boosted, but I was looking for details. That car has come a long way. BTW what grill did you use to mesh?

Now take that 2.5GT off the grill and put the real deal badge there!

(this coming from someone who had an STi badge on his old BK )

Previous owner did the grill, looks stock, cut out the middle, tie and glue in the mesh then painted body color. I do want to change the badge, but not sure if anything premade will fit my wants. Probably be a custom something, only time will tell.......... I know I'm going to have to change something on the front after what I do at the back of the car. (top secret a.k.a. keep you guys hanging and check back when updated!)

nice car man! Is that a standard front bar that you guys get in the US? We have a very similar one (same as the JDM gen 2 GT-B) but it's not quite the same as that. I like!

I'm not sure, it was on the car when I bought, had it off for about a day after the swap and the fron end felt like j.e.l.l.o. so it went right back on. It does touch the hood and holds it up 1/8th an inch though.

Nah mate, hes referring to the front bumper, not the upper front stress bar (chrome) by the radiator. Ya, that's the stock US gen 2 GT front bar. He's got it customized to fit the JDM glass foggy's. The US fogs are plastic rubbish and are more squared off & smaller. Other than that, the major difference is our front bar sticks out further, the grill droop is larger to accommodate a taller grill and the vertical slats in the lower opening + no actual molding for the license plate. US front bar is maybe better for a front mount IC but the beam is a lot heavier.

Most the $ was in tearing the dash out, merging the harness and putting back together, I'd rather not have on forums since I'm not sure another person would get the same price, every car is different. Some people ask why I didn't do it myself, well I bought the ej20g from Jhot, came with a 30 day warranty so I wanted it in the car running asap and the money was well spent since the car was at their shop less than a week. The manager of the shop built a 98 rs with same swap so they knew what they were doing. This engine is from a 96 jdm wrx sedan 5mt (wagons and autos got a smaller turbo and different ecu), the sti got the ej20k, only difference really is forged internals.

So about a month ago I bought a set of snowflakes to have a spring/fall set, took my winter rims and blizzaks off and put these on right away since it was decent out. Well it's been quite snowy off an on since but oh well, finally took some pics this morning, figured some snowflakes flying made the picture even more fitting, lol (yes, it's still freaking snowing this 31st of march :smt017).

Finally got some updates, I wrapped some uel headers, sprayed them then put exhaust tape around the spots close to anything around them. So pulled the engine installed headers, did a compression test just to check numbers and was 180 for all four which is a bit high but better than low numbers! Also installed new o2 sensor as the wires were not looking so great. Got another spare trans from a Wrx and pulled the center diff out to weld that so now rwd and put on some new rims. I should be able to get pics this weekend at an Autox event if it's not raining too bad.

Well won't be any sideways pics, (maybe some snowtime cyclones though) I was working on a video last week and toasted another welded rear diff, I wasn't even clutch kicking when it went out but I had once prior and holy is it a violent tire spin. So in the last month, been two welded diffs and two not so cheap tires trashed it was fun and glad to try it out. But my wife and I now have another kid on the way so going back to awd and put in a lsd rear diff from the '00 RS my current trans came from.

Anyways here's some pics from welding the center diff, I'll be putting up for sale.

Center diff disassembled, clutch packs (not shown) bearing halves and spider gear and forward transfer removed to lose awd.

Sorry just noticed you posted on here, haven't logged in for a while. I can go into details if you still need, I actually have the rear cover off the trans as I had some odd noises coming from the trans area and thought that stupid center diff circlip might be the culprit but wasn't.

Finally have the car back on the road after sitting in the garage for two months. The 5 year old Koyo radiator had small leaks where the top tubes go into the side tank so not really easy to get at to fix. I was also hearing a rattle around the clutch and figured it was clutch springs or in the trans so pulled everything apart. Got the trans out and found one of the bolts for the clutch dust shield/inspection cover was missing and the rattle was that thing clanking against the engine block, lucky me. Since I had everything apart I welded the circlip on the center diff, front left axle was shot and right side boots were dry rotted real bad so got a pair from Raxles. Upgraded the stock exhaust hangers to some Cusco to tighten the exhaust up that was tapping my bumper when going over bumps. Now she's ready for winter again,
