i have a 99 L wagon with what i believe to be a phase 2 2.2 in it.
however i went to put a new air filter in it today and found that whatever air filter it takes its not in the books at any auto parts stores....

correct me if im wrong but phase 2 2.2's should be MAF based, BUT mine is MAP based.

what in the world is under my hood?

Call a subaru parts dealer and give them your vin #. They should be able to help. If you want to take a pic of under the hood we should be able to tell. I am pretty sure you have a 2.2l.

Take a picture - in 1999 Subaru America made a few cars with spare parts off the shelf as they were coming to the end of the production cycle.
