Custom short shifter question?

Okay i know this might sounds possibly ghetto but has anyone legit cut their shifter to make it shorter? does it effect anything? is it stupid honestly lol. i dont need the threads cause the knob i have has the adapter screws so would it hurt if i just cut it an inch or two shorter? really just for looks.

It will make the shifter appear physically shorter, but it won't be an actual short throw shifter.

I cut the top shorter and Added more between the pivot point/bolt thing and the ball at the end on my GF's 2.5RS and it feels the exact same as my SPT short throw in my car.
