Hey guys, my dad recently swapped out my stock 91' legacy turbo tranny for a jdm 92' liberty rs tranny. In doing so the rear diff binds. My car came with a 3.90 rear diff with viscuous limited slip. I have heard that I can just swap out my stock rear diff with a 4:11 to match the jdm tranny. I really want to have limited slip in my 4:11. Are there any USDM rear diffs that are limited slip and 4:11? any input really helps, thanks, devan

I think the 97 GT came with a rear LSD. Anyone want to confirm this? I'm pretty sure they were all 4.11 too.

No Mark, it didn't. No BD/BG/BK came with LSD as far as I know.

IIRC, the only USDM cars that came with a 4.111 LSD are:

Legacy:
01+ 2.5L 5MT (excluding Brighton; although I thought they dropped the Brighton name 4 years prior to that... ??)
02+ 3.0L BE & BH 5MT

Impreza:
02-04 WRX 4EAT tranny
00-01 RS 5MT

Forester:
00-02 'S' 5MT
03+ w/ rear disc brakes 5MT

There was a thread in NASIOC with a more substantial breakdown...but since he is concerned with 4.111, thats all I've listed.

edit: I may be wrong not to include the BE/BH series, but I am unsure about them.

edit on edit: I was wrong about the BE/BH series....I've corrected the post.

Are you sure the 98-99 Outbacks didnt get a LSD?

I'm 98% (w/ a +2% confidence swing) sure that BD/BG/BK series did not get any here in the states.

my original post is updated too....found more 4.111 LSD rears.

Yes, most definitely open diff.

I am under the impression that all of the pinion gears have the same number of teeth - maybe swapping ring gears would reestablish your 4.11?

+1 to the 00+01 RS 5MT coming with a 4.11 LSD

I didn't think any of the 3 liter H6's came with a 5 speed?

no, but they can interface with an EJ series 5speed.

I know that. I've seen a few 5 speed H6's, mostly SVX, but a few Outbacks. :) I also saw a 6 speed, but that was at a show in Portland a long time ago.

open diffs = correct

all pinions have same number of teeth = dead wrong.

examples:
3.900 = 10 pinion teeth & 39 ring teeth
4.111 = 9 pinion teeth & 37 ring teeth
4.444 = 9 pinion teeth & 40 ring teeth
3.545 = 11 pinion teeth & 39 ring teeth

just do the math. 39/10 = 3.9000
37/9 = 4.111111111111111111111111111

and so on.

ring and pinions are SETS. never mix and match. you'll be sorry.

just wait....you'll see of another H6 6MT combo....sixspeedlegacy is working on it as we type.

madman. mu-ha ha ha :twisted:
