For those of you who haven't heard, I will be working part time as the subaru sales dude/project planner at The Speed Factor, the shop who is doing my engine swap. We will be developing lots of new stuff for subarus, not just WRXs and STis either. We will most likely be starting with the 05 and up turbo legacies, but let's all remember I will have an influence in this at the shop, and if there is enough of a demand we can begin to market stuff for older legs as well! Definitely PM, email, or just post up in this thread ideas that I can toss over to the shop. We are also happy to organize Group Buys, if you guys can get enough people together we can do just about anything! After the experience of my engine swap, we will be documenting it and offering that service to the general public, at a competitive or cheaper price than you can find other places (as well as a familiar face lol). I'm serious guys, we can have custom stuff made; anything from intake manifolds to exhausts to turbos, or anything else, as long as there is a market! Post up!
If you want to email me, hit up brendan_wiggins@msn.com, thatll get to me first till my speedfactor email is working.
Also, Shane could I maybe get this moved into the vendor section? I dont have approval to post in there.

fixed
I will put my thinking cap on for sure... is this only for perfomance parts?

Depending on what you define as performance parts, yea. Oem replacement parts arent something we would get involved in. Other stuff, its always worth a thought, shoot!
Also, this is not confined to SpeedFactor stuff that we made, we can get just about anything you guys would need. Might be a bit better for those of us on the east coast.
Oh, and I still can't post in those forums :?

I imagine that he is the only one besides DHR that can give you that option.

Yea, don't know how I messed that one up. Sorry Shane, I'm retarded

sheepdog, make a new username with Speed Factor's name in it, and that can be labeled as a vendor. That's the way its done on Nasioc, and it separates business from yourself.
Then that username can get put in the vendor section.

Carbon fiber hoods for the BD/BG's with integrated scoop, or a scoop cutout ready for a wrx/sti insert? Or you could just do an enlarged scoop compared to the outback/gt scoops, kind of like 95legacySTi's custom job. I believe that's the guy, its a blue 95 legacy sedan.

I second that motion. I would also like to see another header, perhaps similar to the Borla design, but with cleaner welds and a competitive (or... OMG... cheaper) price. I'll keep this in mind over the next couple of days and try to shoot some more ideas.

Starting out with basics would be nice:
Exhaust Systems with hi-flow cat options, maybe a choice of 2 or 3 different styles of mufflers and either an equal length header or an unequal one.
Pulley sets - select two, one or all three
Lightweight clutch
Maybe universal race-style wheels in a range of sizes
(How about fender rolling?)
Suspension kits - ie. "Everything you need to upgrade to STi shocks with a selection of springs". Supply everything in an easy kit so we don't have to assemble stuff and you're on to a winner.
Adjustable swaybars... rear strut braces for the wagon lovers...
Heck - what about projector retrofits into the stock lenses?

All three of these are things that I would DEFINATELY consider buying.

The headers/exhaust and suspension are DEFINITELY something we can do. I'll be at the shop in a couple hours, I'll talk to them about it. We might even be able to have one of our suppliers set up a custom set of coilovers  And I'll check on the feasibility of some headers being made up better and cheaper than the borla ones.
Strut braces might be do-able too, however we have never made one before. These arent produced? Sway bars might be a bit tough.
Headlights are probably another thing we wouldn't get into making ourselves.
Pulley's and clutches are something we could just sell, I think all that stuff is already made. I'll check it out.
I know we rolled fenders on an MR2 last week. I'll talk with martin, not sure if we did it or outsourced it.
Wheels we can do, we are a master distributor for Rota and can get anything else you guys would want.
Keep it coming guys!

Does that mean good deals on Rotas for your SL-i.net crew? I may look into picking up a set of Slipstreams for the Miata.

I don't think coilovers are the way to go. Coilovers are very application specific - and if you want to maximise the appeal then producing an entire kit for swap in suspension (essentially a coilover, but without the harshness) is more ideal. Most of the people who tinker with their cars are daily drivers. Coilovers, unless you're in an area that has no snow, and good roads, have limited use.
The thing that has always put me off buying KYB AGX or some other performance suspension system (besides OEM shocks and aftermarket springs) has been the lack of solid info regarding the "which part goes with what" compatibility.
You'll get some good responses from the Borla style headers - because you can market to the Impreza crowd as well.

We can check into the suspension stuff, what about a set of adjustable coilovers? You could adjust them soft and not drop the car too much. I'll read up some more. Thanks guys I'll keep everyone updated!

Again - very few coilovers are ever as "soft" or daily driver friendly as OEM replacement struts and strings. Coilovers are designed as a step up in the handling department from OEM style replacements.
To have a set of coilovers on a daily driven car that is never taken to the ultimate limits either on a track/roadcourse or autox arena, is a waste of not only personal money, but ALSO research and development money.
In New Zealand I would be ok to run coilovers - but that's because the roads are actually smooth and flat. In the US, particularly in those areas that have snow, a 3" pothole is common. Running a coilover over one of those is guaranteed to accelerate wear and tear beyond normal timeframes.

I second the request for a C/F hood w/ scoop for BD models (WRX style scoop would be the bomb!)
Also higher flow intake manifold & larger throttle body.

I would love a WRX Sti style hood (with the huge hood scoop) C/F or not... eather is good for me.

I'd love to get a pair of JDM projectors and some of those auto-aiming HIDs from the RX-350!
Anyone have some cash they want to donate for the project?
It's a worthy cause!
I'll do a DIY if it works! Promise!
Imagine, you could do it in the fog lamps too! That would be some serious light!
if you make some HID i bet half of the people on this forum would buy them. (if you make them for the BD i would)

Sorry guys, no headlights. We will be doing mostly performance parts, and we decided to not get into any more product development until we move to the new shop in April. But until then, PM me and I can get you prices on anything else you'll need.

How about some nice flowing heads?
There's nothing majorly wrong with the intake manifold, but the heads could be better.

+1
and another selection of headers would be fanstastic
And adjustable suspension would awesome, I miss that feature from the earlier Subarus. But not coilovers, those wouldn't sell except to the ones who don't mind a bit of a bumpy ride.
Moneywise, you've gotta appeal to the BD/BK crowd, as they're the most numerous, but I think a GREAT move would be to get a lot of BE/BH parts, as they feel super left out, and I know you'd get a lot of business from the crowd here and on Nasioc (3rd gens seem to be pretty popular on Nasioc).
Oh, and another thought: how about an agressive looking off-road type bumper for the Legacy that mounts lights and has a front plate (sorta like an angled skid plate) and a brushguard? :D

I like your ideas. The new bumper would be very interesting. My bumper (97 GT) isnt that bad, but the roundness in the front kinda offsets my appeal.
