My engine got mad?

I was driving to the movies with my friend, all normal nothing irregular happened, as we park i notice my engine check light is on, Im thinking oh it must be for my cat, as thats what it turned on for a while ago. But after the movie i begin driving and notice that at higher revs my engine sounds MUCH louder. We get back to my friends house and we cant spot anything that could be wrong under the hood, we checked my exhaust system too, everything looked normal. Today im taking my car to autozone to have them see what the check engine light is on about. I'll report back here when i have that info. But anyone have any ideas? Hope this isnt too bad or expensive of a problem :neutral:

where in fl are ya? fisrst hunch is exhaust leak cause you said it got alot oouder, if its before the o2s that can cause troubles.

i 2nd the exhaust leak, i had a hair line crack just beforee my 02, got loud and threw a code, then, next think i knew thee crack turned into a hole and i was crazy loud.

Got it checked out and it was a cat code again lol. So im thinking my cat is just totally done? And if so im thinkin maybe ill just do a cat delete and be done with it instead of buying a new one. But the only thing that worries me about that is if my check engine light will stay on. Because i wouldent want it on like ALL the time, so i wouldent know if like a bigger problem had happened ya know? So i need some wisdom, fellow legacy junkies! Andddd im in Seminole, FL

Just a start, and others will give you a heads up I'm sure. Personally, I'd go with a high flow cat and never worry about emissions or new issues like tickets etc...

Hmmmmmm, some high flow cat action? I'll look into that. Might spray paint "big cat" and some tiger stripes on it. Just to make it official. Or what about if i deleted both cats and put a resonator on?

An exhaust leak can cause a false cat or o2 codes because it changes the amount of oxygen in the exhaust. So if you have an exhaust leak, fix that first before condemning the cat.

Easiest way to tell if you have a leak, start the car up, get under it with a spray bottle filled with water, and mist around the exhaust. Where the mist blows away from, thats your leak.

another easy way is to run a can of seafoam thru, with the exhaust tubed to outside/exhaust evac system hooked up.

and look for smoke

kills two birds w/ one stone.
