Very nice exhaust!

Should have done more research on your intake though cause you just wasted alot of money :(

You need to do the hybrid intake on the MAF setups, read here:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr ... ?t=1471819 (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1471819)

thanks about the exhaust, i like the non-ricer tone of it...... i wish i would have done some more research about the intake but in my nieve mod crazy mindset, i bought, what i thought was, the least labor intensive set up.........

well you can still use the piping! just get some silicone couplings and mate it to your stock airbox and snorkus :)

i was pondering that setup after u said it.........after my next gas fill up, ill change it up and see if my mileage increases.....from the looks of it, it will.......hopefully!!!

trust me i've ran both setups the hybrid is by far the best.

It wont bog down under 2000rpm either.

Its not as loud but you can still hear it from the outside, You can hear it in an old video of mine! Listen for when i'm flooring it back :)

what you should of done to check the mpgs was run it on a full tank of gas. Ran the SRI with the aftermarket filter, then another full tank of gas with the factory air box. I'm not sure if mine changed, but I did get 27 mpg once driving 141 miles to college. Made my day!

during the past snowy days, my dad has driven it to work and he watches the mpgs and he said they plumetted so thats prretty much why.....but on the good side, i got to drive our 2006 mustang with practical straght pipes to school and such so i was pretty darn happy

What type of panel filter did you use? I have heard about AEM dry flow but they dont make one for my 96.

Was going to go with a K&N.

i think mine flat out broke to pieces......i put the car in park and took my foot off the brake and the car started to roll then when accelerating, it goes to like 25 mph then the rpm and speedometer gauge shoot up real fast and the car is still going 25. cant wait for it to get fixed :)

The tint definitely makes it look better, and for the brakes go with hawk brake pads and oem rotors for a budget upgrade and for a little extra you can get drilled or slotted rotors.

so i had to somehow use my subaru to transport a 4x8 sheet of oak veneer plywood to school today...well i learned first that it didnt fit inside(well it did but i would have to recline the driver seat and then lean to the side which wouldnt let me see where i am going). so i decided to use ratchet straps and put it on top of the roof rails and voila! it worked. i had to keep my hand outside the window and hold onto the plywood all they way to school(i coulnd feel my hand it was so cold!!!). i only used two straps but it worked. and who need a truck any way???

you cant tell in the picture but two people in our tech department have some tastefully modded cars. one is a N/A deep red cobalt that is very nice(body kit, rims, intake, exhaust) and the other is a white miata with some nice rims and a muffler that has shot soot all on the white bumper and whoever it is, they live down the road from the school and have probably 3 subaru legacy wagons in their driveway.

oh, and here is my wonderful park job at school(dont worry, i park next to my girlfriend so she doesnt mind when i park like that).

Ok. Reasoning for my asking is that I am after a non-recolored gauge cluster. Must be grey faced with red needled. But I will also need the one color connector that goes into the speedometer, its blue or green (and it'll need some of the wire so I can make an adapter). Ill be going from a 140 to a 120 speedo.

quick update: Looking around to see who is gonna do my headgaskets for the cheapest. another option would be to swap in another 2.5 i found for 250 but the guy will do the headgaskets on that motor for another 100. so thats 350 for a complete motor. just throwing around some of the routes i may take so i can get some outside input form others.

chrish8r

No problem man. We are all her to help. It is right where the paintjob ends around the wheel opening. There is a rubber strip that goes from one end of the arch to the other. It will pull out but from the picture, you may rip off that silver tape when doing this. Hope this clears it up.

chrish8r

you shouldnt need to sand anything. it is a rubber lining that seals where the paint meets the wheel well. should be flexible. ive already removed mine but that where my finger is is where the rubber lining should be.

So that means the engine is out. I snagged a few pictures of it while I was looking it over.
Whoever did my timiming belt last beat the shit out of my crank pulley and timing belt cover.
Well here is the somewhat bare block:

Heads so you can see the leaks:

Picture looking into the pistons:
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/06/20120626170259-1.jpg

and I also learned why my exhaust sounded like a sewing machine on stock headers; there was a leak in the gasket( or lack of gasket which rusted away).

so I am gonna search some local yards for the timing belt covers while the heads are machined.

It is about time. and I am only in need of two pieces of the cover: the middle section and one of the inside parts of a side.

I think Bookem might have what you need in his for sale thread. I just ordered some odds and ends from him, he's great to deal with.

Zack

It seems like he has about two in line and his center piece has a similar hole from rubbing like mine. but thank you for looking. I may have found the center one for 35 bucks online.

Crowboy
06-26-2012, 11:57 PM
http://www.1stsubaruparts.com/ has the center for $21 (PN 13570AA101)
The inside covers are PN 13575AA044 for the driver side and PN 13568AA072 for the passenger side, 1st subaru has them for about $30 ea. None of them come with gaskets.

These part numbers are confirmed for a '97 EJ25D but you may want to use the parts catalog at http://opposedforces.com/ to confirm the right part numbers for your '99.

I just went through this on mine, thought it might help.

And like most of the Ebay headers, these ones had to be persuaded a little to fit on correctly. but atleast I have some shine to the underside of my car. Ive decided not to wrap them just because Ive read very mixxed reviews on what wrapping can do. Some say it expedites rust while others say it slows it down. Im just going to leave them as they are. Sounds good! Like the birds as well lol, it's a subaru in its natural habitat!

I've put on my stock one back on for a little bit while I rewrap my borla knockoff header, and I swear I feel a slight difference in power, with just daily driving. It just feels a little sluggish when I'm driving normal.

Since you're not using heat wrap can you hear the sewing maching sound, a clicking sound, also sounds like an exhaust leak sound?

I also see that your header has slightly different pipe splitters/reducers, idk what else to call them, welded in. Mine are shorter and don't look like they're the best for airflow. It's interesting that the same product is made in different ways, which is why there are fitment issues and maybe quality issues with others.

Yeah, i get some slight sewing machine noise but its not as noticeable as a lot of people have said but mine are still a bit new.

So I put a more appropriate coupler on my intake instead of the two couplers clamped together
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/07/20120724131153-1.jpg

And I also put two more sticker on, "Agile Automotive" is one of the local tuning shops and the white swoosh is our local "York PA Subaru Group" logo.

I plan on cleaning up the wiring for the extra fogs and Hella horns by looming them so they look better. And I will try to put on my NRG grounding kit and may make a write up for it.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/07/20120726143732-2.jpg
It is the tope hard line along the firewall and has about 8-10 inches of rubber hose that is not currently connected to anything. I believe it is cruise control but am not postive. thank you

Finally cleaned it after a good while. Took it to a local wash bay and did it myself. This place was really cool though. It had the normal pressure washer and brush, but it also had a special sprayer for the triple colored foam and an air gun to dry off your car. Not too bad of a job either. Then yesterday I used the express shine wax and rain x on my windows and what a difference the rain x made with all this rain we are having!!!

Before I make any observances on the hybrid setup with the "snorkus", I am going to wiat and run a few tanks of gas through it first.

Here is what I did today. I bought a can of Plasti dip to redo my grille and also to blend my peeling trim.

Here is the grille after I redid it:
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/09/20120921_134834_zpsb607ff5c-1.jpg

So here is one of my new parts. It is a front strut bar. I bought it from xosubielegacyxo at the IAG meet.

This is part one out of a few of my "get stiff" section of my build.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/09/20120922_165300_zps39343ac2-1.jpg

A little hazy:

Shined up with Eagle One Polishing Wool:
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/09/20120922_165612_zpsc235015b-1.jpg

Installed:
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/09/20120922_194139_zps67c159b0-1.jpg

bolts:
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/09/20120922_194148_zps11038f52-1.jpg

As far as I can tell, the ride is a bit stiffer but I havent had the chance to try it out to really test it.

chrish8r
09-25-2012, 09:30 PM
Well I have had a little time to test out the strut bar and it has changed the way by car handles in a good way. My car has less of a "hopping" feeling when I go around a turn fast. Also, it seems that changing lanes on the highway is smoother. But I still plan on getting a rear strut bar to add even more rigidity to the car.

So I took my car to the Lube Center and the guys liked my car a bit.(one thought the FWD fuse could be used to save fuel mileage. haha)

The important thing is the below guy put on a smaller oil filter so It would not be so close to the UEL headers. Here it is:
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/09/20120925_175632-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/09/20120925_175650-1.jpg

So I wanted to see how my car will sound with a muffler delete So I figured out a way I can do it without having to weld my muffler back on if Im not a fan of it.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/09/mufflerdeleteplan-1.jpg

My plan is to cut the exhaust before the muffler. This is where the "quick-release" part comes in. I can put a reducer on with clamps to have my muffler on or I can just put a straight pipe or dump pipe that will be clamped to the car's exhaust to achieve the muffler delete. This setup should only cost me around 20-25 bucks. I will try to do it this weekend but im not sure yet. But trust me, if I do it, Ill be sure to post it up!!!

I need to tweak the settings and figure out how to utilize it to the max but I love it so far.

Here are some pictures I took with it:

Sounds like a Subaru! I've always been impressed with the GoPro's abilities to capture sound. Not bad for an in-board mic. You should mount it in the lip of the front bumper cover and then go hoon some curves. It'll be a different kind of noise.

but I have been smelling coolant lately and I found where it was at. It is a the top of the timing belt cover in the middle.
I will try to get pictures to show it better.

So here is where the leaked coolant is located at. My hunch is the upper radiator hose but im not entirely sure.

My legacy did that. I believe it's a hose that goes beneath the intake manifold, but ask someone for confirmation.

It seems fine for right now(probably have to top off coolant a little each week or so)

But I took a few pictures at school:

I bought a subwoofer and amplifier off my friend yesterday. For only 20 bucks, I got a 10 inch Bazooka sub, a Rockford Fosgate amp and a sealed box. The sub is only 100 watt rms and the amp is 100-150 watts rms. I know I am not going to break window but I hope to add some more "depth" to my music....

Now im am looking for a low priced headunit(sub $100) and an amp wiring kit. Ive been looking at a 50 dollar Dual unit. I dont need bluetooth or all those bells and whistles. Just a unit to power my sub and amp....Any suggestions for me and my budget?

Check out http://www.crutchfield.com. They usually have some good deals.

Edit- just saw this on Nasioc. A Dual din headunit with aux and usb input for $55 shipped. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr ... ?t=2425838 (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2425838)

I have decided to keep the stock headunit and try that approach since i had a stock sub anyway. But when i get to the point of being more serious with my sound system, its gonna be crutchfield or bust for me. cant beat their service.

Here is a thread of my new plan:

So I was able to get into contact with this guy(www.ae64.com (http://www.ae64.com)) who sells almost every stock Subaru wiring harness. It should run me about 15 buck for a forward sub harness. Most of his harnesses are under 20 bucks and he makes sure you dont buy the wrong one.

What I ask is for you all to give me a subscription(https://www.youtube.com/user/thedirtydi ... ature=mhee (https://www.youtube.com/user/thedirtydirtydirty?feature=mhee))

And if you are on Facebook, I would ask that you like my Official Youtube page(https://www.facebook.com/Thedirtydirtydirty)

After having time to actually stop and think since the first semester is over, I decided to not put any more money into this car(well unless I find an irresistible deal...) besides maintainence. I love this car and plan to drive it for a long time, but it has come to the point where it is at the end of what I wish to do to it.

Yesterday my buddy's were yelling at me cause every time I would go over a patch of drifted snow I would rev match down into 3rd an spin my tires till they would catch. Looks like you had a lot of fun man. I am thinking about getting a go-pro to take out with me. I am going to go hit up the Dillsburg game lands today those roads are the best to play on.

I wasnt going to get this one but my dad cut me a deal as a sort of late christmas present so I definitely jumped on it!! Ill definitely need to read up on how to take better photos. Thank you. haha

About the CEL, it is a P0440 error: Evap Emissions Malfunction. Ive had it before and it reset and went away. From what I have read, it is a pita to diagnose because there is so much under such a general topic. But it looks like Ill have to get my shop to smoke the system to find the leak or whatever.....Will this code cause any issues? and does anyone have suggestions for things to look for? Thank you.

Well, not only is the steering rack boot torn, which could be the squealing noise (pump running). Could be the rear main seal is leaking between the transmission and the block.

If I just had the headgaskets done, would the main seal have been replaced? The engine was taken out of course.

If the motor was pulled for the HG's, usually for preventive maintenance the rear seal, front seal, timing belt, pulleys, water pump, plugs, boots, valve gaskets can be done. Did they put that on your invoice when the car was done or did they just slap on the new HG's and call it a day?

I will have to find the invoice and look. But i think that that spot has been oily for years and i am just now trying to figure it out.

I have the same issue. On the bottom of my car it is pretty bad. That gunk is everywhere! haha. My assumption is its residue from oil and grease from years of build up. I have tried spraying it clean or wiping it and its very greasy. I have been thinking about getting the bottom the front of the car steam cleaned. To A: clean it up so it looks better B: have it clean so if oil leaks it may be easier to find where.

The oil separator between the block and tranny could be something to do with it as well but since Ive had the car its been dirty. I would be interested to see what you guys end up doing to clean it or figure out anything
