So I picked up the left mirror from another BG/BK wagon in a junkyard, thinking I could just swap it into my 98 wagon without a problem, only to discover that the mirror I pulled off has 3 mounting screws, where as it looks like mine has 1?

Anyone else ever discovered this? That screw that's in my current mirror looks like it's completely in the wrong place for the other one - right where the power mirror interface cable is.

I guess there's no easy way for me to use this mirror.

Silly question, but did you take the screw out of the existing mirror?
What's behind the rubber backing?

Well I took it out and the mirror was still somehow attached to the door, maybe just because it's a tight fit. I tried to pry the rubber backing off but it looks like it's connected to the entire rubber section that seals the window when it rolls up, so I didn't mess with it too much in the fear that I'd mess up the window seal.

Hmmm, upon thinking about this maybe this needs to go into the Exterior forum, not Interior - owell.

Strange, looks like it's for the other side. I have to take a look at mine again.

It doesn't just pull off. I've already pulled off the grille cover for the non-existent tweeters that didn't come with my car, and the plastic piece that apparently holds the non-existent tweeters. The rubber thingie looks like it's molded to the plastic on the outside.

Reason, thanks so much for taking a look, let me know what you find!

Heres the Service manual to get the mirror off

Just stick a phillips head screwdriver into those three holes. I couldnt get my drivers mirror off cause I stripped one of the screws.

I cant remember how I got that rubber off (I cant beleive it doesnt come off), but I do know I had the doorskin off.

huh. My 95 has 3 screws, and 3 of those nubs that stick into the door from the mirror. the screws don't go into the nubs, either.

I don't know if I can help you with this one...

Ah, the service manual is most helpful. Like I said there aren't screws in those rubber holes. The screw you can see in the picture is one screw - the other two are hidden behind the door panel trim - they're way down low, behind the door trim. Took off the door panel trim and all is good.

All the screws are in there tight - a power drill is advisable.

Incidentally, the 97 Legacy mirror is not only folding, but it's also larger compared to the 98 Legacy:
