98 BD Glove Compartment light?

Hi, I was wondering if there is a light for the glove compartment in the 1998 Legacy sedan BD model. I bought the car used, and realized that there is no light for my glove compartment. I think I found a tab for detecting when the glove box is open or closed, and may have found a spot for where a light bulb might go, but I can't be sure.

I just want to double check if there is actually a light for this model. If so, what is the part number?

If not, is there a mod?

I know mine has a bulb since I see it all night long driving. I still have not installed my glove compartment. :roll:

Yup, there's a light already in there. Maybe the bulb is burned out.

Oh, great! Now time for me to locate the location of the bulb. I felt around in the there, but don't feel any light bulbs. One possible location is right behind the white tab (i think this is what detects of the glove box is open or closed), which is to the right of locking mechanism.

Does anyone know the part number for the light bulb? If not, then I'm gonna have to head over to the dealership and see. Thanks for the replies!

When you find the bulb just take it to a auto store and get it replaced. Screw paying the dealer 10 bucks for a light bulb!

There's a push switch (like a refrigerator) that tells the bulb to switch on. The bulb is up under the dash section, toward the front. It's a cheap little thing.

Yeah, I felt under there. Right behind the push switch (like a refrigerator), there is a round plastic piece, with 2 wires at the end, but there is no light bulb.

I'm gonna contact some Subaru parts websites for the part number.

SPFY: there is no lamp in the glove on that car

haha, i only asked because i couldn't find the part number on their website, and they tell me there's no bulb or lamp in that car probably cause they don't have it in stock or something. i'll just some other website.

Okay, I ended up going to the junk yard for parts, and i pulled out the bulb from other legacy's. Almost every single Legacy had this bulb. I believe it's called a mini wedge bulb. It was sort of a pain to get the bulb in, but I got it in. Light only turns on when the headlights are on.

Yes its a mini wedge, I can't remember the bulb type number, but I fit a white LED in mine. And once again this shows the most people who work at the dealers in the parts section don't know shit. I won't lie and say I know everything about a Legacy, but when I have to school the parts counter guy there's something wrong.
