***Making this thread now and bookmarking it so I can add to it when I have the time to work on it. I have like 5 DIY projects going on right now so we'll see how long this takes me!
I got the inspiration from looking through Yamazaki's s401 thread and loved the engine cover that he had as well as his friend's TT cover. I PM'd him and we chatted and he said he shipped one to somebody on here but there were bad fitment issues. Sooooooo.....I decided to make my own!
1. Made a crude mock up of what the cover will look like with cardboard:

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2010/10/5103732469_770c21beb8-1.jpg
2. I then made marks where I would use the pre-existing bolts attachments for the belt shields, and made a mark where I would use a 90 degree bracket mount.
3. Annnnnd that's all I got done today before I had to leave for my night class
I plan on using a simple 1/8" aluminum sheet, then cutting it, smoothing out the edges, polishing and making bends to mimic the contour of the stock covers. I'll throw some Subaru badges off of eBay onto it, and viola!
Check back soon :smt006

To the people that are following this...
My Dad actually knows a guy that can laser cut and bend the aluminum at the company he works for (they make parts for the air force and shit) that I need, all I have to do is give him the dimensions on a picture and he'll hook me up for free!
So I'm going to get a sick engine cover and skidplate from this dude in December. STOKED!

Hmm I dunno the guy is doing it for free because it's like a favor for my dad.
I can ask him how much it would cost to make a few more, I'm sure it would be decently cheaper than other places.

I actually looked into building a cover from a 05+ legacy engine cover... still havent found one worth the priced used or a wrecked legacy yet to pull one and start it but soon enough when i have the hood completed(hopefully in a couple weeks) i will start this mod if no one has started the legacy engine cover yet.

there is mine.. done in an hour including paint. its not a fashion thing, i wanted it to prevent water from my new scoop to coil, sensors and TB. really simple bolts into oem air intake studs..
cost a big 4 bucks and really effective but not a showcar thing..!!

sparking some interest for this thread. my buddy has a 07 LGT limited. recently upgraded his intake manifold to one of a STI. so his engine cover no longer fits. i got my hands on it for a great price - free. it should fit nice when i get new intake piping. since i also have a BH as you can see i can get some photos for that too
heres a mock-up. since i also have a BH as you can see i can get some photos for that too

Looks like if you were to leave the "torque box" you could just trim off the rear section of the cover.

I used a 1st gen Legacy engine cover on mine. With the brackets, it was a bolt on affair! I'll snap some photos tonight and post them here.
