muffler making odd sounds?

okay let me try to explain in words.. each time i accelerate with the gas the engine revs up as it would. but when i take my foot off the gas pedal it makes a "poof" or "pop" kind of sound. i have a 98 legacy gt. i bought the car with a custom muffler.. my car is really loud with it.(kinda like) but maybe its the muffler or is this a normal sound?

It's called throttle over-run... as long as you're not backfiring you're fine. I love the sound my car makes when I go off-throttle. Makes me row the gearshift like I'm in the Olympics. :lol:

yeah i get like a small sucking sound on lift off at the redline.
