since it has been so difficult to find a low mileage dual port 2.2, i was wondering what if i rebuilt ej22t out of my old subaru as a non turbo? what all would i have to do? would it be just as simple as changing the pistons and cams? i dont want a turbo anymore, otherwise i'd be rebuilding it as such. could it make decent power(more than the stock phase 1 2.2's 132hp)? i've also been interested in applying dry film lubricants to the moving parts and related areas for quite some time. i think this could help in the mpg department. i had a teacher who did this with an old caprice and reported near 30 mpg on the highway.

The vehicle is gonna be a total dog due to 7.8 compression ratio vs 9.7:1 (or something like that) for an N/A 2.2, you'll prob use more fuel since you'll have to rev it higher.
If you want the dual port heads so bad, I'll source you a set and trade you for the shortblock (even better, just the block halves to save on shipping).
Let me know

this is all just hypothetical. i dont really have the means for this kind of undertaking. maybe someday. i figured i'd have to change the pistons to a higher compression piston. the cams would also have to be changed, right?

Yeah, the list of things to get that motor to run well as an N/A would start getting expensive. You'll need N/A cams, and if I remember right, they don't fit into EJ22T sohc heads, so you'd be back at square 1. The coolant passages don't line up perfectly as well between the 22t and 22E heads.
