car history question

So recently I have been interested in the history of my car. This happened after I was looking over the shop estimate for my car and under car options a 5 speed transmission is listed. I noticed this on the papers the last time my car had to be repaired but I assumed it was a mistake. This time it is a different shop so Im doubting its a mistake. I assume this info comes from the cars VIN, so is this to say my car originally had a 5 speed and not the 4EAT that it has now?

Heres a simple way to tell. Call your local Subaru dealer and have them run the VIN and ask them for the specs on that VIN.

so I looked into it more and after searching the internet for a vin decoder and checking the id plate on the car it did originally come with an auto. So now I'm wondering why the shop papers always say it has a 5 speed. Guess Ill ask next time Im there
