I need help with my 1996 Subaru Legacy Brighton 2.2L Brighton, I had CHECK ENGINE LIGHT on yesterday so I checked to see what codes they were, I have codes P0340 , and P0304. Check engine currently is off but one of the mechanics said they wouldn't beable to futher assist me without a ANOTHER diagnotics which will cost me another $80 bucks. Well anyways, he wrote down on this piece of paper P0340 CMP Sensor A circuit problem bank 1 and he wrote down P0304 Cylinder 4 misfire detected.
I got a tune-up in August, fuel filter, plugs, wires, air filter, PCV value...
My car does idle a lot and sometimes shuts off at stop lights. Although, my CHECK ENGINE light is currently off, I was wondering if any one knew what parts I could get to resolve the problem. Thank you, suggestions welcomed PLEASE :)

Causes
A code P0304 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty spark plug or wire
Faulty coil (pack)
Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
Faulty fuel injector
Burned exhaust valve
Faulty catalytic converter(s)
Running out of fuel
Poor compression
Defective computer
If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
A code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
the camshaft position sensor may have failed
the PCM may have failed
there exists an open circuit
the crankshaft position sensor may have failed
Possible Solutions
With a P0340 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
Diagnose/replace the PCM as required

yeah , i did! lol but when it came down to repairing i went somewhere esle since autozone only sells part and don't do the actual labor/service here. But anyway, some places don't take other places diagnosis which REALLY is a rip off . it sucks bad !!

Yeah, I've noticed my car is supposed to be about 23 MPG but seriously MY car is like 4 MPG like seriously . And when I pump my gas and then drive home or whatever , it smells like gasoline all the time... not on the inside but on the outside . Like someone can tell I just pumped gas . What do I do ??

Nope, not true. The ECU stores the codes, and only triggers the light when a component fails a drive-cycle test 3 times.
