View Full Version : strange noise from break discs(I'm assuming) while driving

Recently maybe about a week ago, about half the time I'm driving there will be this whirring noise coming from the right side of my car, at least it sounds like it. And I'm thinking its something rubbing against my break disc while im driving, because when I'm at a stop the noise goes away. I haven't touched my breaks other than tightening my e-brake from inside the car. And I know that it is possible to over tighten it, but I tightened it maybe about a month ago, and this noise just started recently. All my break discs do not appear to have any abnormal wear on them. But then again I do not have a trained eye. So here are my front and rear right side discs. But as I said before sometimes the noise will be there but other times it won't. Kinda scratchin my head about this one :neutral:

discs look fine, how do your pads look? plenty of life front and back? does the car snow down quicker while you are off the throttle? does the noise go away when your at speed but on the brakes?

Replace your caliper pins. Your pads are dragging because your caliper isnt floating away from the rotor when your pedal is lifted.

^^ its not really nessicarry to replace them, I would remove them clean them up with a wire brush and put some greese on them, that will loosen them up.

Allright I'll just take the pads off and clean em and see if that helps. Thanks for the advice broz

They're $5 a side, and if they're corroded and swollen because of moisture and grit, you'll have to replace them again soon anyway.

If you have a grinder you can smooth them down enough but for the small amount of money I just replace them.

I've been driving a while and the noise seems to have gone away completely lol. So I'm happy about that. If it comes back or I get any other strange noises I shall report back

I hate it when that happens, because I don't know what it is and I won't be able to figure it out if it is not making the sound. but maybe that is just because I am OCD about cars, I always like to know what is happening

No man I'm the same way lol. Like any little thing about my car I wanna know what it is. Like recently my car was vibrating thru the steering wheel at like 55+ mph. And I was thinking i needed a wheel alignment but TURNS OUT.. It was just a bunch of dirt packed up in my drivers side front tire lol. I like simple and cheap fixes :3
