Ok, Ive just taken off my cambelt in search of this lumpy idle of mine, figured I might as well put a new one on while im in there. The old belt has had all the markings rubbed off it. I wanted to just pop it back on temporarily to see if realigning the timing helped (im not sure if it was correct or not as I was using a socket to wind it round to line up the marks, for the last bit I put th esocket on the rh cam gear and due to way the tension is set up it slipped some teeth on the crank sprocket)
Ive ordered a new belt so hopefully it will have the markings on it. Anyway, looking in the manual, it states that the tooth gap between timing marks on the belt is 44 teeth from RH cam to Crank, and 40.5 teeth from crank to LH cam. I counted and marked these on the belt and offered it up...no way! it is impossible to line up those marks whilst keeping the three sprockets lined up with the marks on the crankcase., Is the manual wrong? does anyone have a belt from a 2.5 NA SOHC engine with marks they could count the teeth between for me?
Or am i missing something?
