Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the forum so I thought I would make a quick thread for myself and my ride. This past spring my 93 BMW 325I was hit by a college kid at about 45 mph while it was parked out front of my apartment (said college student also had a BAC of .21). So out with the old and in with the new. I bought a 1997 Legacy GT sedan 5MT from a nice guy in Des Moines. Ive been in love ever since.

So far I've done some pretty minor modifications, swapped out the original fog lights with Hella 500's and replaced the old, scored brake rotors with drilled and slotted rotors I bought off eBay. Also replaced to stock air filter and put on some new rubber, Bridgestone Potenzas.

Im looking to upgrade the following in the coming months:
-exhaust
-paint job and front bumper crack
-struts
-engine intake and underdrive pulleys
-maybe turbo at some point

Again, I'm excited to be here and hope you guys can help me out. any suggestions you have for the items above or other ideas are welcome.

UPDATE: Sadly I just sold my BD yesterday to a guy in town for $3300. Only bought it for $3200 so, win? Im searching the market big time now. What to buy, what to buy....
Keep all 4 wheels turning.

Welcome.
Surf the for sale forums. Also check the Members Rides 1 threads there you'll find quite a few set ups.

Here's a directory that's currently under development:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=20172 (https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=20172)

Doesn't have everyone's ride, so search the MR1 section too.

As for your questions:

Some people have pieced together some good exhaust set ups using some great components.

Alot of us have swapped in earlier model Impreza WRX suspensions.

Intakes are kinda of up in the air. Some find a drop in filter to be progressive, and others find cold air to benefit their cars. Read around, and find out which suits your goals. As for underdrive pulleys,

read viewtopic.php?f=3&t=18779&p=217797&hilit=underdrive+pulleys#p217797 (https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=18779&p=217797&hilit=underdrive+pulleys#p217797)

and that should give you some idea about them and what some of the brands that are out there.

As always....Search, search, search! =) Incase you don't see it (its somewhat hidden) look in the top right hand corner of your screen. Don't be afraid to ask questions too.

Again, Welcome.

I'VE SEEN YOU BEFORE!!!! Driving around by the design building. I've got an old green legacy sorta JDM'd out. Has a giant bright orange half life 2 sticker on the back now.
For reference --> https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11926

That sucks your old car got smashed. Pretty lame. Stupid ames drivers...
People here are awesome! There are a few more rules than most forums but it seems to keep out the trollers and haters. I've bought many parts from people here and have had absolutely no trouble with shipping or anything. Always check the legacy parts classifieds. People are putting stuff up all the time it seems.

You can check out http://iowasubaruclub.com/ too. It's a local Subaru club. You can see the people and check the forum we have on nasioc. We have monthly meets. Every first wednesday of the month. Next one is on the 1st of Dec. You are welcome to hang out with us if you want!

Thanks everyone. And yeah Navi, i live over by design. I think i've seen your wagon too now that you mention it haha. And yeah if im not busy ill def. have to check out the iowa club meet.

So my first priority is gonna be to get my paint fixed, so im probably gonna hit up expresspaint.com for some Quick Silver Metallic, clear coat and sandpaper. Ill post before and after pics when the work is all done, but it will probably be a while.

Quick simple question. My GT is (according to prev. owner) wired up for a wireless remote. How can I go about getting a remote? Do dealerships sell them and for how much?

Yes, the stealership or ebay.

Just a feeler, has anyone tried putting this kind of intake on their car? I really like the look of it and having a MAF built in it seems like it should work just fine.

It's just an HKS pod filter bolted to a stock MAF. Nothing special, but it will suck a bunch of hot air from your engine bay into the engine. It'll sound really fast though.

So last night the lights in my gauge cluster went out on my way home from work. Consequently, i also got a speeding ticket since there arent many people out driving at midnight and you cant see how fast you are going. Only 43 in a 35, but still enough for an $80 ticket. Anyway, is this just becuase of a fuse or do I need to pull out the cluster and replace the bulbs? (I secretly want the later to be the answer cause ive been dying to change the color of the cluster.

Also, theres a good chance a paint job is in the works so i can finally fix my flaking paint on the bumper and other random scuff marks from the previous owner. Any suggestions? Im thinking WR Blue, but I would also like to do something kinda unique.

And just curious, is the big impreza RS spoiler a good fit on a BD or does it look really out of place?

I have seen the 2.5 rs high rise spoilers on our BDs and I think it looks good. I plan on sporting on some day soon if I can find it in black (bop).
