so me and a friend were trying to replace the speed sensor on the passengers side of the tranny and while trying to unscrew it, the top part popped off from the main part

so the side where the sensor connects to the harness popped off and the botton and base are still screwed in the tranny and we cant find any tool to get the rest out :(

any suggestions?

What is the specific problem? On my car (98 GT converted to 5spd) there is only 1 speed sensor on the trans, then the 4 wheel speed sensors.

I thought there was 2... one on the passenger side of the tranny and another located around the drivers side of the engine bay... im almost positive this is right

What fault code are you getting?

no code at all... just speedo not working and odometer(counting up SUPER slowly) like a mile for every 15 I go

Probably a faulty speedo then. Check for a signal pulse at the speedo head. It might be easier to take it to an auto electrician.

how do I check for a signal pulse at the speedo head? and also.... this is a new speedo, my last one was faulty and I replaced it with this one from ebay, so not sure if this is a bad speedo or if checking the signal will tell me that?

Hold on a sec. You've already replaced the speedo as well?? Did the newer speedo ever work??

ok heres the story so everythings out on the table lol

got the car with 98k miles and the previous owner had already taken it to a shop to switch out for a brand new speedo cuz her previous one had failed. So when I got the car the speedo was fine but SOMETIMES went to 0 while driving, rarely though. then I bought some snazzy new white face plates for the gauges and tore apart the speedo that came with the car to install them... well i fudged up and pulled the needles and pins out too far so all my needles were off..... so I bought a speedo off a member here that was used (but he said it worked), got it in the mail, installed and the speedo didnt work... I didn't think it was the cars problem so I sent it back to him to get a refund and bought a diff used one off ebay which once installed the speedo didnt work.

the speedo in the car hasnt been working for almost a year now lol, so I've just been trying all the diff scenarios to fix it, which hasnt been going so smoothly

Right. If the speed sensor was faulty you would get a fault code. I'm picking you have a wiring fault somewhere, possibly in the connectors to the speedo cluster, seeing as they've been mucked with a lot. You may need to check wire continuity from the ECU up to the cluster.

am i looking for like a split wire or what?

Anything that stops the electrickery getting from one end to the other. Just know that the wire inside could be broken but the insulation still intact.

Time to break out the multimeter...
I would start by reseating all your connector plugs at the dash cluster end.
