So I changed my main belt yesterday, I have a 02 2.5, and now it is squeeking whenever I start the engine and whenever I make sharp turns.

I tightened the belt to exactly where it was before it took it off. Did i do something wrong?

Well if you tighten your NEW belts to where your OLD worn belts where then that's where the issue is, probably too tight.

You dont really have to put alot of tension on these belts to get them not to squeek. Was there any grease or anything on the pulleys before you installed?

yeah there was no grease or anything like that. I thought mabye i had done something wrong. Im gonna try to loosen the adjustment arm a little and see if that helps at all.

What about that spray auto parts stores sell for the belts? makes them squeek no more?

Don't use it. That's for peole who are trying to sell cars that have sqeaky belts.

Sqeeking is friction and it tells you that something is wrong. The lubricant will stop the squeek, but will not stop the friction and will wear your belt down.

Exactly, you want to correct the problem, not cover it up.

yup.. too tight. They don't need to be hella tight, or else it WILL cause squealing.

ok, so i loosened the tension bolt 3 threads, now its only doing in during low idle, and while turning

at least it stopped while it was just idleing!

What kind of belt is it?

Check your power steering fluid. Low fluid could cause the pump to work excessively hard with increased resistance to the belt system.

I have no idea what kinda belt it is. I went to advanced auto parts and said GIMME A BELT@!!!!

just like that. Seriously I dont know , it wasnt the generic kind they offer I went with the little more expensive one.

I will check the power steering fluid. thanks!
