I need help... I'm on the process of installing a new HG. Now when i brought the two head blocks for resurfacing, the resurface tech asked me if i marked each of the valves on its appropriate place? I said nope! Then he explain that i should have... Is it true? or i can just put back the valves in any holes?

in that case yes. each bucket shim is matched for clearance for that valve in that location... so its going to take a lot longer to figure out what shim goes where.

Some new shims may be required anyway, its just that most bank on them still being good if they are in the original location.

Oh no! Now that guy at the resurfacing shop told me a clue. Is it true that the thinner shims will be at the exhausts and the thicker shims will be at the intakes?

I think the best way is to install the buckets without the shims and take all your clearance measurements then pick out the shim that you have that is the best size for each.

i think there are some DIYs out there on the interwebs, just do some searching and you should be able to find something useful.
