My RSR GT2 exhaust for my old 240sx had removable silencers that slide in the tip (dual tip) in which worked very well. I want to have the option to silence the exhaust in the morning or when the kid is with me on highway trips. I doubt it will really ever be in, but just in case. I am ok for now, but I have 1 5/8 in long tubes coming and a high flow cat!  Anyone know of a product or a company who would make them?
Oh btw Borla 3" cat-back with dual tip for a 02 wrx.

Yea mine used to work well in California with the cops around and it was like four bolts and it slid out. Kept it in my trunk.

My Apexi muffler came with one, sounded horrible with it on and came right off after a few seconds of running, I still have it sitting around at my shop. This one just had one small bolt so it's quick on and off, I'll measure and see if you are interested.

If you guys have too much volume or drone, then your exhaust needs resonators.

Remind you that I have the stock very restrictive dual catted uppipe and turbo so an N/a application wouldn't be as bad, my car sounded like a sewing machine with the silencer on.

lol I have a 12in resonator but I think the reason I have drone is because of my hiflow metal core racing cat

i have a highflow cat, obx resonator, 18" resonator and a vibrant axle back, but some times i want stock quiet for that annual 12hr trip with family down to Georgia

^This! I love the sound of a loud obnoxious exhaust but sometimes you have to be considerate to kids. ;)

Anyone have an idea how to design them? Is there a certain way the baffle has to flow? I may have to talk to some vendors.

Interesting. Too bad I am going to need dual tip silencers if I can find/make them.

My son loves the sound of my car. Puts him to sleep on the highway. And wakes him up when I hit an on/off ramp.

don't blame you, i have never heard a car that sounded better (or even good) with a silencer in the tip.

I'm sure you could figure out a way to make a couple work for you. Take some exhaust pipe just a bit smaller than your's and have an exhaust shop expand one end, take some flat sheet, cut triangles out of one end (to make a tapered side) and roll it to fill the tip and weld together. Here's a pic for reference. Dimensions are 2.25" inlet x 1.75" center x 4.25" tip, 6" long, just to get an idea of the .

I have that same type muffler and it came with the silencer body. I've never used it. It's laying in my parts bin. I test fit it, jst slips in and a single bolt holds it in. But I live in Texas so nobody cares how loud your car is. I do get odd looks though because well, first it's not a pickup, second everybody keeps telling me "your car don't sound like no Honda."
I get ragged on occasionally for having the fart can muffler but at least I don't sound like a chainsaw in a metal bucket.
For what it's worth, my 10 year old loves how loud my car is. Though I get the stink eye from parents when I pull up to school to pick him up.
Plus my wife knows when I'm coming home from work because she says she can hear my car rumbling from down the street.

Ever car I've heard with a baffle in the tip like that sounded like ass. About like there was a soda can stuck in the muffler. Aweful. But quieter.

I think I might go with the cut in version down the road. I will have to see how it sounds after this weekend.
