View Full Version : Borla-rep owners: Does your header hit your oil pan?

I recently removed my Borla-rep headers, and found that they had been rubbing on my oil pan, explaining why my engine vibration was so bad at idle. They also touched the sway bar a bit as well.
Has anyone else had this problem? Or did I just get a lemon?

When they were on my 2.5 I did not have a problem at all. I had more than enought clearance.

yep mine did..so much that i couldnt even bolt it on. went to a muffler shop and the cut the piece that was rubbing the oilpan and made new piping to go around it. mines still rubbing the sway bar though.

Sounds like fitment really varies. Where did you all buy your headers from? I wonder if different sellers get them from different suppliers.

The older knock offs fit pretty good. I read on a few boards including this one that the ones out there now fit like shit.

The issue is that you have people making replicas from COPIES of Borlas. They're not made to the same dimensions exactly, like the Borlas. It's like cloning, the further away (generationally) you get from the original, the more likely they are to be insane or have mutations. ;)

I didn't have oil pan clearance problems, I've owned 2 replicas (OBX and a cheaper one) and 1 real borla. The replicas had to be coerced a bit to fit both sizes of the exhaust ports, but all 3 were much easier to bolt to the cat section than stock.

um i bought mine from a guy on rs2.5 who claimed it was a borla but was obviously a knockoff.

Well ive been thinking of buying some but im not shure if they touch the oil pan. Would it be okay if they were wraped and touched the oil pan?

The won't cause any damage if they touch the oil pan. Mine have been on there rubbing for 15K, and all it really did was take the paint off the pan.

If the thought of it rubbing the pan irks you, you could always spend the money for authentic Borla. My Borla single port header was beautifully put together vs the crap I have now. Next set of headers I buy if I pass up on EL headers Ill get a Borla.

Or you can go custom like Grafton did. Not as pretty, but still do the job!

I had the same issue with the Borla Knock-offs. I blamed the shipping and handling. I had to forcefully bend the runners away from each other and even still i had to use a stubby filter. But it cleared the oil pan after 1 hour of fiddling with it. Same goes when I installed the knockoffs on 2 other BG/BK's and a GD rs.

They always change every 4 months. No matter what price or seller off ebay I got them from they all had the exact same gaskets and shitty bent design.

I'm pretty sure its just one manufacturer that makes them, and about a dozen different sellers.
