I agree with Jospgut, it looks nice and clean but the center garnish covering thing and the blackness of the lights makes the back look... well frankly, horrible.
As for intake take a look at viewtopic.php?f=11&t=16216 (http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=16216)

Cold air Intake wont work for my car because I live in Oregon and it rains a ton here. How good does removing the snorkus and adding one pipe to the front scoop. Then putting a K&N replacement in, is there any HP gain?

don't like the smoked headlights, I'm a lightwhore.

Kind of ambivalent towards smoked tails.

The smoked headlights look nice its not over kill, however the tail lights is a bit extreme I've seen a few BE's do the painted center lens and its all about personal preference. Not my thing but hey nice restore, not many people can say they did what you did specially without going to a body shop.

i like the front tinted headlights, but idk about the back, if you like it , keep it, your car, you do whatever suits you, don't let anyone tell you different.

I like the rear tailights on this. I'll like the front only after this:

Future Mods:
HID 6k

is completed. But since you're going to "Unsmoke" them, I guess I will have to wait to comment on the over all appearance. Looking good so far.

I'm the same way with headlights... I do way too much highway to "look cool"... I need the functionality more! I don't care for the tails being blacked out on a white car, makes them too obvious I think, but on a darker car, say dark blue or even black, then it looks much better, although I still wouldn't do it myself.

I kind of like it, I would need to see more pics and on a compute(im using my phone) but I think the BE ass end is borderline hideous IMO. Thumbs up for trying to improve on subarus bad lol.

I think it looks better not smoked with JDM Tails but everyone has their own taste! Keep up the mods :smt023

Another Idea would be to do like this minus the spoiler/Wing

Yah Subaru designers must of been on some crazy drugs to design a taillight like that. I did my best to hide it. Im going to unsmoke the front headlights because they straight suck at night my foglights light up the road for me. Im going to bake um and remove the amber and paint the inside a little.

I love this I wish I saw this pic before I painted the middle I would have done it like the blue car. Im probably going to remove the black over the reverse lights. Any Idea how to do it besides lacquer thiner or wetsanding it?

What did i use... Goof Off works... brake cleaner works but it might haze up the plastic, not totally sure. Tape everything off really well. Guess you could always get the 3M Polish/Repair kit at Autozone for $25 that does amazing stuff to hazed up headlights or plastic peices that make them OEM New looking. My headlights looked brand new from the factory after i used the kit, just make sure you take your time and follow the directions.

I say still paint the rest of the tail light section white... its not too late and am sure won't cost much at all to re-spray of if it was me it would cost like $25 in rattle can OEM Paint from a local paint store and Do It Myself since its a small area that you can't really screw up on. I vote DIY :thumbright:

Better yet, i have a extra taillight section in my garage... i can get your paint code, spray it for you, and then you tint you lower section with a nice clean clear rev. section for $80 and for $100 i will give you the OEM Corners for back up. Your only in OR so not a huge drive if your wanting to meet somewhere south in WA.

Dude That sounds like a good deal it probably wouldnt be for a couple weeks because theres some bills I have to pay first. Would you be able to paint it like the blue car. and do you know it the amber in the taillight is removable?

Matty2Hotty
11-23-2010, 06:24 PM
Yeah no rush or anything, i would paint it just the the Blue S401 STI in the picture but of course White. The amber is not but i can change the Orange to Red.

17 in ASA rims and Blizzaks tires

What is the width and offset of those rims as well as the tire size? Also do chains fit on it?

I wouldn't paint over the second brake light that is in the center garnish, but that is me. Especially if you go to the mountains a lot as I would want the person behind me to see as many brake lights as the car has... I would suggest some JDM taillights...

Pshhhh... Who needs 5 regular bulb brake lights and then 1 huge long bright LED brake light total of 6... I think having 4 total is plenty if you asked me! :smt017

Completely understand your point as well Matty, just not my style. I do think the blue S401 center garnish looks better than the white one though.

I honestly dont know the offset very close to stock rims. width Id say is 7in tires are 215 45r 17. I got them off craigslist from some older guy for 350 with pretty much brand new Blizzaks on them. THey were a steal plus he sold me weather tech mats for my whole car for 20 bucks. only flaw is theyre out of an 06 so they dont fix perfectly but pretty close. I dont have chains but no need these tires are champs. I was strugling to lose traction last weekend

actually its pretty easy to change that light design i started like you with all black
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2007/12/wax7-1.jpg
and then went to this
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/10/CopyofSNV30093-1.jpg
all i did was mask the area around reverse light and take an acetone/mineral spirit soacked cloth and rub away the tint it takes like 20 min but make sure you use good masking tape
