1998 Legacy L Sedan
EJ22
4EAT
Had 53,xxx miles when I started driving it September 2008, now has 82,xxx
Story here is this was my grandmas car. My dad decided he wanted me to drive this and not his old truck so he just went out and bought it after my grandma stopped driving. At the time I wasnt so thrilled because I had an American car bias going on and was really looking forward to driving the truck. But as time has passed Iv grown to love my Subie and the adventures I have in it. All stock now except for audio upgrades. Looking forward to modding it some in the near future.
Mod List (Almost all stock, but getting better)
Exterior
RS 5 spoke wheels
Interior
2003 WRX seats front and rear
Audio
Kenwood KDC-MP738U head unit
Kenwood KAC-9104D Amp
Kenwood KFC-W3012 12" sub
Ported Sub Box
Kicker KS600 speakers (1 recently blew, replaced with stock for now)
4 gauge amp wiring kit
Performance
None
Suspension
KYB GR2 struts
H&R Sport Springs
Two months after I got the car I let a friend drive when we were messing around and drifting and sliding in the rain. That turned into a big mistake when he wrecked it. I wont go into detail with this story, but its definitely something we will never forget.
In May 2010 someone hit my car while it was parked with their trailer. Over $1700 in damages. The shop that fixed my car used the wrong mirror, so my drivers side is folding, and the passenger fixed. They also put the grille on crooked, as well as the inner fender liner not fitting right, that would rub on the strut and make a clicking sound. They said it was unrelated suspension damage and not their responsibility.

Got my front WRX seats in tonight  . The passenger seat does sit noticeably higher then the drivers but I am about 6'3" and having it adjusted to where I would have it usually I didnt have any problems, so Im not concerned with finding a way to fix that issue. Only big thing right now is that I dont have bolts to mount my where the seatbelt clicks in. Ill have to go buy some bolts for that in the morning and hopefully get the rears in this weekend

nice ride, love the way WRX seats look and feel. Dont forget to swap the seat belt clicker, you probably already know this but the seat belt buckle wont click into the wrx ones.

Actually that's where my problem comes in. The wrx seats didn't come with the clicker. Previous owner took them off so I don't have the nuts or bolts to mount mine.

Working on getting the rears in right now. Ran into some problems when I was disconnecting my amp which is mounted on the back of the seats. The speaker wire going from amp to sub was caught under my sub creating tension. When I folded the seat forward it pulled on the wire and snapped off the negative terminal on the sub box. And now I'm having issues fighting the seat back to get that off. But I will get this thing out haha

You can use the same nuts and bolts from your seats.

Well the bolt from the old seats isn't exacty a bolt. It doesn't come off lol. So I bought new ones and got it figured out. And I just got my stereo issues solved and the new seats should be in here shortly

Got the rears in this morning. They are by no means a perfect fit but it works. I kinda miss the old seats but I like the look of having all matching. Still have more work to do with these but at least their in

Replaced my missing wheel center cap with a custom one made from a RedBull can. A friend had seen the same thing on some wheels he saw for sale on craigslist and told me about it. I figured I would give it a try cause over 2 years ago I lost one of mine and it always irritated me, sure enough an 8.4 fl oz can fit just right. Pretty easy to cut the can up and make it work. For about $2 and you get a drink I love it and it adds something unique to the car. I might get around to doing all 4 but for now it makes that one wheel look better

I'm suprised I haven't seen you're car when I've been in The Dalles. I know theres a black SVX with a red drivers door, one second gen outback sedan, a 90 or 91 legacy sedan, and a few outback wagons. Thats all I've seen in the two trips there, I'll keep an eye open for you're car next time I'm there. The center cap is creative and, technically, environmentally green.

Alright big update finally here, after lots of waiting finally got all me new parts and started to get them in as well as some maintenance stuff. Got my tranny fluid changed and so far Im really impressed. Havent experienced any more torque bind and the shifts are so much smoother. Got my KYB GR2's in with H&R springs (well all but one, one bolt wouldnt break loose on the right rear strut so a shop is installing the last one), and got brand new Hankook Ventus Evo V12 tires that look great on my RS 5 spokes I painted gold. On the wheels I attempted to do some curbage repair but got lazy and rushed it. It looks better then it was but not perfect. And for the first time in months today I finally got my car washed, hopefully Ill get it waxed here soon. So heres the first couple pics with all the new stuff

Nice looking wheels. Stance looks good too
peter

Thanks. Stance is a little off though cause the right rear still has the stock strut and spring. And I hope after a while it'll settle some and go slightly lower.

It probably looks like your right rear end has an invisible jack under it 24/7 lol
Once you get that right rear H&R spring in and drive around for a few weeks it will settle out much better!
edit: and i forgot, looks great!!!

So today I decided I would do a total interior clean and wash and wax the Subie. But before I did all that I did a measurement after the drop and the right side is sitting higher by a half inch. Also while putting in my back seats I tightened a bolt too much and broke it off. Not sure what I'm going to do about either problem. The bolt I broke was the only one holding the seat back in. It's one of those days where I'm not so happy with the car

Thats one of the first threads I saw when I came to this site. It's kinda been an inspiration for my car in a way. It really is an awesome car and I wish mine was more like it

I just remembered I missed an update a couple weeks ago. Had some work done on the car to fix and oil leak and do some preventative maintainance. Had the cam and crank seals replaced and the timing belt and water pump. I was able to but the belt and pump from a friend for $20 which ended up saving me close to $200. But when the shop was working on it they called and said my timing belt tensioner was soaked in oil and also needed replaced which cost another $240. They also replaced some worn out hoses and clamps. After all that and an oil change I'm out close to $700 but my car finally is doing well and should be good for a while

Few update things, just rolled over to a whopping 85,000 miles on this thing lol. Also got a pro fit mount for Christmas, I attached an old phone case to it so I just snap my iPhone in and have it secured nicely. Hopefully also got my CEL taken care of, hasnt come back yet at least.

Been a while since the last update, got some stuff done but not everything. Since the last update my brother hit my car and scratched up the rear bumper, I finally got around to installing my JDM sidemarkers (and I failed horribly at wiring those, so many mistakes smh :smt013 ), got my rally pig sticker on the mirror, and got 2 tickets while in Portland the other day. Forgot to pay for parking and had my license plate in the dash, gonna fight the plate one showing its fixed and see if I cant get some money back. Oh and driving on the freeway in a snow storm with summer tires is sketchy, lesson learned dont take winter wheels off too soon. Also in the process of making some trash can mudflaps. Pics up soon once my car is clean again.

I hate tickets like the license plate one...But how did those trashcan mudflaps turn out??

I fought the license plate ticket and got all my money back. I haven't got the mud flaps on yet, got busy with other stuff and forgot about them until recently. Hopefully I'll get them done soon

Been a long time since the last update. Finally got around to working on my mudflaps and got the rear 2 mounted. So here's a little teaser pic

i love that badge of ownership placement, never thought of putting it there
peter
08-16-2012, 09:36 PM
I do too. It's a little cleaner look. It's actually a strip of plastic with holes drilled in it that the badges are attached to so its kinda like a license plate frame, just doesnt go all the way around

How have those mudflaps held up?
peter
02-03-2013, 06:01 PM
They held up pretty well for the short time they were on. I was drifting and doing donuts in a gravel pit and the screws I used to secure them didn't stay in and I lost them. I found one and it seemed to be in good shape even after being hit by tons of rocks. Never got around to making new ones to reinstall
