so i wanna fit a 05 wrx tranny in my legacy.
my car is already mt. but cable clutch
what do i need, assuming i will need a shorter drive shaft, different clutch and FW, add a master cylinder and the correct differential . what else is missing from the list?
will i need diff front axles?

1) Why would you want a wrx transmission. There is really no big benefit from owning one of these units.
2) There is no Front LSD on these types of transmission.
3) You don't need to go a hydraulic setup to run 5MT with a cable clutch
4) You have to use wrx specific axles (IIRC)

you sure about that even when you are changing to a pull style clutch? i know i have heard about it, but I was thinking it was only relevant to going from a cable push style to a hydro push style. Or can you run the wrx tranny with a push style clutch? Just curious.
Also, the transmission length is the same, you would use your stock drive shaft.

Whoops StatGSR you are correct.. Its only going between PUSH vs PUSH not PUSH vs PULL.. The way the clutch fork works is the issue between styles.
I cant believe I mixed that up,.
So to answer the orginal question you will need:
-05 WRX 5MT
-WRX slave, master, all lines, clutch
Personally thats way to much work for a transmission that doesn't hold high power numbers and when a 96+ unit can do the same job with less parts to swap.

^ you also may have to add a pedal assembly to that list IIRC.
but i agree with chuck, a subaru 5spd is still a subaru 5spd. if your not going to a 6spd why waste your time and money. Just reminds me of all the people that upgraded to an RA gearset thinking it was stronger.... only to blow that apart too...

i agree, the stock n/a box can take 250whp if driven correctly

well i came acrosss a sweet deal for a engine and tranny out of a 2005 wrx . guy wants so sell both for 650 and hes really flexible on the price. im not pushing high horse power so i think that tranny would be more than enough.
also my tranny sounds like its going. im starting to get grumbly crunchy noises when im decelerating :smt009

$650 for both sounds too good to be true.. WRX transmission usually lose 2nd and 3rd when pushed..
The cheapest I've seen engine + 5MT sold for is $1000 with issues..
But... good deals do come up and this could be legit however I am very skeptical thats for sure.
For $650 you can buy an entire rusted 95-99 Legacy and pull the tranny and have extra parts.. But too each their own.
