I had been planning on doing a swap but money is tight and I dont feel like waiting for ever while I save money. So I'm thinking about boosting my 2.5, just a simple 5-8lbs nothing crazy its my DD and I need it to last for awhile before it blows up haha. I've got a list of things I'm gonna need so I can start trying to figure out how much its gonna cost me, but I just want to make sure I've accounted for everything,
1. TD04
2. B.O.V
3. Boost Gauge & Manual Boost Controller
4. Custom Up-pipe/ Down-pipe & Headers & rest of exhaust, 3in.
5. TMIC
6. Sti Fuel Pump & Oil Pump
7. Emanage System
8. Sti Pistons & Rods
9. Head Gaskets
10. Sti Injectors
11. ARP Head Studs
Thats everything off the top of my head, I'm sure I'm missing a few things. Also if there is anything that seems uneccessary please let me know so I can save some money. If anyone has any tips or recommendations for specific parts that would be cool too.
Thanks guys

If you get a 91-94 legacy SS Engine cross member you don't need custome up/down pipes, not that it's a big deal to make them if ou have the tools/ skills.

Assuming you have a 5mt, you'll need a new clutch too.

Seems like a pretty good setup

Holy ... that's an expensive parts list specially with the eManage & pistons.

your missing:
-Wideband o2 sensor + gauge
-arp main studs

the SS EJ22T is OBDI but the block is a great forged unit. Hyrbrid builds are always fun..

Whoops, ment just an SS crossmember, not the whole car. Edited...

oh ya the crossmember.. good point why make custom when there are inexpensive units already available.

Yeah it seems everytime I start doing this stuff the lists just keeps growing. Any suggestions to make it less exspensive. I thought the emanage was pretty crucial because my friend did a similair build and didn't have any type of engine management and the car ran like doookie. Pistons are one of those things that its worth it to spend the extra bucks on, even if it means not eating as much for a week or two. and thanks for the missing parts.

I would also suggest new piston rings as well.

Shop around for good deals on good parts. Don't try to skimp out. When you blow someting you will start crying and wonder why. Keep your eyes peeled, someone is always willing to make a deal.

You should break down the cost of what you already know.. If you hit $3000+ just do a proper swap.. Why deal with headaches and flaky info.

Chuck is right.... Boosting a NA motor the "correct" way will cost roughly around 3-6k doing it right. I would suggest just doing a WRX swap. All NA platforms aren't designed for boosting and extra load... Remember you might have a built proof motor that runs perfect but your tranny and drivetrain might think elsewise leading to not going anywhere but revving. Still great to hear your car run but kind of sucks not to go anywhere.

For 5-8 lbs you don't meed STi internals nor do you need an STi oil pump. You will need a fuel management unit of some sort and I would recommend a walbro 255LPH fuel pump over the STi's. Cometic head gaskets are an excellent idea. For my stock setup I also used a pp6 not an emanage. To be honest with the fuel management unit and pump the car will run rich under WOT. That being said a wideband o2 sensor as mentioned above is a great idea too.

Thats one hell of a godzilla thead with no supporting evidence that this guy really did make the numbers he said with the parts he claimed to use..

The internet is a tricky place be careful with the facts you choose to believe.. Always double check your facts.

Lets break it down..

This guy isn't even using a EJ25D motor.. sure the block itself is a EJ25D but its been hones and fitted with an arsenal of goodies.. That plus his claims of 30PSI on an OEM EJ257 head gasket is a little bit out there to say the least.

I am not saying this cant be done but its more of a "shoot ask questions later" type of thread..

He built a hybrid motor with a EJ25D block... but he never went into detail about ECU, wiring, MAF vs MAP...

This godzilla thread is pointless when you hit page 15 of his thread and now he runs a EJ257 block..

Pound for Pound, dollar for dollar.. your stepping into one hell of a headache.

Thats just my 2 cents everyone has their own opinion / arguments.. I've seen this and that compared to next guy..

To end this off.. please please for the love of motivation, crunch the numbers and see if the Time + Cost of Parts + Machine Shop Labor = Worth it? Do you really want to be one of those Part Number guys who spend hours online and at the dealership piecing together something that "may" hold together..

Good luck with your choices.

Yeah a lot of his claims seemed to be too good to be true. Haha I didn't read that far into the thread about the EJ257, but that doesn't surprise me, the EJ25 probably blew up when he was driving it home. Yeah since reading all of your comments I've have been thinking twice, but I have a bad case of the turbo illness and want to cure it soo badly. I suppose a little back ground info would be helpful, I am in no way shape or form any type of Subaru/ Mechanic expert, very far from it. I've only gotten serious into since my purchase of the leggy about a year ago. Prior to that I'd always been into car but not so much building them and all this goodness that I am know, my first car was an 87 Caddy so there wasn't much to be done with that engine so I never even bothered, I just went interior/ sound system crazy. Almost everything I know about modding cars has been learned in this past years from listening to my friends talk about them (I've started hanging out with gearheads) and reading through forums for countless hours. So my knowledge is mainly textbook stuff, and the only way to really learn about mechanics is to really do it, which is another reason why I'm dying to turbo my car. So this is pretty much my little experiment build to really start understanding everything. So i'll take your advice and plan this out throughly, I was planning on doing that though, cause my friend just blew up his motor (same car as me) after doing something similar, but his main downfall was his lack of planning and rigging everything together (for example PVC intake.......yeah). I was trying to stay away from a motor swap though because of the cost but now I see it will be rather expensive, but I still feel that there is a way to turbo my car legitimately and have it run well without swapping the motor, so any thought on really how to accomplish this would be welcome. I know turboing this engine is going to kill my engine life but as long as I can get a solid 2-3yrs out of it without having problems every other day I'll be fine with it, cause once I do have money I'm planning on doing a legit full motor swap, this is just to pass the time.
