so i had the problem before and both front wheel bearings were bad. had those replaced and it went away. now when i go over speed bumps i get this annoying squeakey groan is the best way to describe it from all 4 corners. from what i have been told is i have the original struts in a 98 outback with 217k miles on it (original windshield also.) i should mention that we have been down in the 30s and have had snow and freezing rain. my car is pretty dirty, could it just need to be washed. Oregon does not use salt on the roads, and the farthest i drive is to Vancouver Washington is as far out of state i go right now, so no massive amounts of salt, SW Washington uses very little (i think) of salt. i am very anal about noises and dummy lights, so i may just be overly cautious.

We get problems here in NZ with the springs squeaking on the bottom spring seat. A good squirt of some thick spray grease, like lithium grease, fixes it for about a year.

You drive a vehicle that is 12 years old, it's 30F outside and you are worried about some squeaks?

Does the sound go away when the vehicle is warmed up, or have you noticed a drop in cornering or comfort? You should look to replace the struts soon, with 200k on them...
