I've been having this problem for sometime now. I figured the tech a Subaru would catch this when he was driving my car but didn't. When I do tight slow turns the car rocks and makes "bump" noises. Is sounds like it's coming from the rear but can't really tell. I'm going to have the wifey drive in a circle while I'm outside listening. I rather not have Subaru charge me to tell me what it is. But I will take free theories from you guys. Let's hear them!

arent the cars locked in 50/50 split in lower gears? My car has the same thing slightly when turning slow, and my brand new STi did the same thing if I had the dccd set to 50/50

Good man, that is what I was hoping. I plan on bringing it to the dealer maybe in a week or two.

DIY - same as an oil change but with no filter to mess with.
One drain plug
about 6qts of ATF
funnel
Peice of cake. :D

I want the ATF filter changed. I don't have the facility and tools to get into it. Plus it's 15 degrees outside so I'll pass.

My tech's actually told me to never change the ATF filter unless I was having problems with the transmission (the torque bind is normal...just change the fluid). Granted, you won't get all the fluid out because there's some left in the torque converter, but the tech will do the same thing you do unless you opt for a full flush, which I've heard bad things about. I'd leave the filter alone and go for it yourself.

I'll just change the fluid then and see if it helps. Maybe I'll do it when the car is up when I replace my exhaust. What fluid you all recommend?

Any ATF that meets the Dexron/MerconIII standards is fine.
If you change the fluid twice in a week you'll get most of the old stuff out. A full drain and replace is about 12qts. the 4EAT is HUGE.
Chuck in a bottle of Lubegard - it lowers overall temps and helps with friction modifiers. It's really, really good. I changed my fluid twice, it didn't get rid of the torque bind. I poured in a bottle of Lubegard, and within 24hrs it was back to 95%, within a week the problem was completely gone.
My torque bind was so bad, I was literally scrubbing the inside rear wheels whenever I did a slow turn in a carpark.
Find a garage to use and do it yourself. It's a piece of cake.
