I don't have a thread of my own, so I thought I would start one and show everyone my newest addition to the car, an XM Satellite Radio! Wow, I love it!
I picked up the original SKYFi unit because it has a red display which is allot easier on the eyes at night than the blue of the newer SKYFi 2. I also used the micro antenna, very small and hardly noticeable! I installed it at the rear, just in front of the "wing" over the window of the tailgate.
I really thought a long time about where to install the main unit. I had originally wanted to put it down low under the main head unit, perhaps remove the ash tray and build it in there. But it was too bulky for that location. I know some stick it to the dash or the vents, but I don't like the effect. I find it tacky. Although I know a lot of people do it. I thought about putting it just above where the phone is, actually I toyed with that quite a while, but in the end it cuts off knee room for the passenger too much.
So in the end I decided to hang it from ceiling, and I love the effect. It's at a great height for adjusting it, doesn't really steal your eyes off the road too much (since you're always looking to see what's playing next), it doesn't get the glare of the sun, and it's neatly up and out of the way.
All the cables are neatly buried and hidden. They disappear up behind the unit and never show up again! Even the antenna in the back disappears into the wing and you never see the wire again either.
I took pictures along the way this time so that I can post a DIY (in case anyone else wants to do it in a similar way.)
Here's are a couple of interior pics of the finished product!
