going for oil change and more..

well it is about that time i need to change my oil. simple right? well i was going to ask peoples opinions on what is the best oil and filter to use. i have a 2000 lgt with a high compression motor any ideas shoot. also what advantages differences have you noticed from using these specific oils. also i was informed my drive belt was slipping and well it was and last night it gave out on me i am curious as to how it may have gone. just use, or hard use, or a seizing pulley, or something else. is there a tougher OEM drive belts that i could get so that they can last longer? thanks.

i work at valvoline and i change my oil every 1000 miles cause i can. I use the derablend oil its a symsyn and i love it. I used max life from them and my car had a hard time in the moring. I also ran full syn with them and the RPMs would tack up to 4 when starting so i swiched back to the derablend. Most ppl hate theis but i used a motor cleaner in mine and it did wonders to her. After the cleaner i can change the oil 3k later and its still clean. If u really really like ur subbie do the zmax treatment to her! That stuff is amazing and you can feel it. i have no advice on the belts tho. sorry

how old is your timing belt(yrs and mileage)? where all the pulleys replaced at the same time? if your replacing the belt, replace all the idler pulleys as well.

As far as oil filters go, i always use purolator pure ones on all my cars. great filters at a great price (all the overly expensive k&n and mobil 1 filters are not worth it, and on the other end of the scale, i would never let a fram filter touch any of my cars.)

what oils i use is based on a lot more, driving habits, how long i want to go between oil changes, and if i consider the cost of the oil to be worth it for that particular vehicle. That said, i use rotella t6 on my diesel truck, mobil 1 on my integra, and dino oil (usually penzoil or similar) on my Subaru.

unknown mileage on belt the pulleys are up at 228,000 now so i may try to replace them as soon as possible but money is tight with my bbk being put together.

The oil discussion has been done to death. Use an appropriate grade/viscosity for your climate and change it often.

Yeah, the oil thing really is a matter of preference as long as it's appropriate for your car. I use Mobile1 but I get it on a discount. I use the KN oil filter because I like the metal body and the fact it you can use a socket wrench to put it on. I don't think they're too tremendously expensive. Just change it at 3000 miles, all will be fine.

The timing belt thing, that just sucks. Belts are belts, they're supposed to last a good bit. +1 on changing the idler pulleys out. With that much mileage on the car really examine the condition of all the pulleys in there.

When you said drive belt I was thinking the accessories belt - though everyone here is talking about the timing belt now so maybe I missed something. The accessories belts wear out over time - just inspect them periodically and replace them when they're worn.

For oils use the recommended viscosity. Synthetic vs. Dino really comes down to personal preference, though I feel the synthetic blends (vs full synthetic) is sketchy because you don't really know what the "blend" is - is it 50/50, or only 10% synthetic :lol:

^ actually i bet you are right, i don't know why i jumped strait to timing belt, i think actually it was be cause i was thinking his motor "gave out" on him, probably was just an accessory belt.
