Windshield Wiper Heating Coil

So the new 2011 WRX has heating coild that go underneath the wiper blades that keeps them form freezing during winter weather. I think thats pretty cool, but does anyone know if its possible to just buy coils like that so i could have the same feature on, say, a BD?

That is not a new feature it started in North America in 1998. I think the car had to be purchased with the weather package option. It gave you the defrost circuit in the glass and the dash toggle button.

Those radiant strips that you posted have to be placed on the inside of your windshield and resting on your dash. It will work but looks cheesy.

I agree chuck. Do you know of anyway to replicate this feature on an older car like mine? is there some kit or electrical wiring circuit i could use to make a "custom" heated windshield like this? or a way to mount the strips i found on the outside and reshape them so they dont look so tacky?

Factory versions have them in between the layers of glass... there is no way for you to accomplish this.. I would not recommend putting this on the outside since its a direct exposure to water..

If you do not want to use the radiant strips and leave them on your dash you could go a bit more complex and build your own defrost kit.. its similar to how your rear windshield works.

Your looking at around 3 hours of properly masking everything off, applying and creating the 12volt pins and wires to power it. You can save some time if you get the peel and stick stuff http://www.frostfighter.com/prt2600spl.htm

I have never done this nor seen anyone do this.. but hey you can be the first and its not that expensive.

My 98 outback limited has that, and the switch is right below the heated seat buttons.

Hmm your right i guess it started 98+ then.. cars101 shows no de-icer for pre 98...
