Hey guys I'm in need of some advice! So this winter I'm taking on my first Subaru motor rebuild. I've done a few v8 rebuilds and some quad and dirt bike motors so I'm fairly confident with motor rebuilds. But I do have a few questions...
First...I don't have a TON of loot to spend on this build. So what are the best up grades making the most HP and reliability for the best price? I found a website that I can pick up a complete rebuild kit...gaskets, pistons, timing belt, water pump and oil pump...there's other stuff can't think of em off the top of my head but I can get it for 400 bucks. I can also get over sized pistons for no extra charge. I also heard somewhere I can put 2.5 heads on my block and it will increase compression ratio. Long story short I'm thinking of getting .40 over pistons and 2.5 heads. Any guesses on What my compression ratio will be? HP range?

Next question is in my car there is a 2.2 already. Will I have to do anything special when putting the New motor in? Or will it all just plug Right back in and be good to go? The 2.2 I'm building is I think out of a 93 legacy. I have a 95.

Any info would be great guys! Thanks in advance!

This thread gives me a headache, there's a few questions that are currently been asked and answered a few times. You also got some information backwards. The words "budget rebuild" makes me cringe.

Why is it that everyone one wants to build a motor with the least amount of money and use mediocre parts/gaskets..

You will never! hit 200 awhp even if you do cams, port polish etc.. and a $8000 into it...

You need to give us more info.. What engine is in your 95? What engine is in the 93? is it from a 93 SS Turbo?

You have 4 posts you might want to use the search and see what others have tried.. Answer are not handed out like candy...

you dont have money, like you said, but your looking into oversized pistons?

those two thoughts do not coincide
