I think there is a DIY here somewhere. Its an 02-03 probably but odds are any GD impreza would fit.

Great question. I was looking for one, too, since the leather wrap on mine is starting to fray. Amazon has a few, but the prices are up there.

That center console is that same as the 04 wrx wagon.

I thought this thread was about AUTO shift knobs anyways?!?!

Not to steal your thread, but do any of the guys in Japan know of a rec yard I might be able to check out to find a new 4EAT shift knob? I don't even know where to look for the yards. Maybe I can find a couple and send one MarkSubi's way.

Shit if you can find some auto ones like the one here in the pic then hell yeah. My car is auto not standard and hey if anywhere Id expect Japan to have it but in yawls auto stores do yawl happen to have some sport of bubble crystal automatic shift knobs? as in ones with a button or away to push the peace of the shifter to go into gear?

I haven't really dug around in any of the auto stores here, but I will keep an eye open. I would love to get a momo knob to match my steering wheel.

The shifter i bought on ebay a few years ago. it works great. i did a lil research and found this http://www.twisterautoparts.com/accessory-522.html
they sell the same one that i have. The shift boot i also bought on ebay last week that does not come with it.

you can use a manual shifter for an auto, but the shifter won't lock into place anymore. What I mean is that if you are driving and hit the stick forward, there is not interlock to prevent you from slamming your transmission into park. One of the guys i work with has a similar set up on his Honda.

Id do it with a standard shift knob but other only ones i want are the crystal bubble shifters and idk if the under side hole would even go onto my shift rod. I have a 95 Legacy so its one of those ugly fat auto shifters. Oh and does this silver shifter have a spring it? because with no button how are you able to put it in gear?

Yokosilver

With a manual shifter, you don't push anything, it just moves freely.

idk how they did it but i saw a vw passat that was an auto and to shift they just lifted up on the shifter and pulled it back in to drive.

i dont have a clue on what they did/changed. idk how those auto shifters are set up

I know this is old, but the BE/BH autos use a knob with no interlock button, since they have the gated shift pattern. The knob comes off counter-clockwise and the shaft is M10-1.25 pitch, so a manual trans knob with that threading will work just fine!

Threads are M10 x 1.25 pitch. I liked the look of the Tomei Duracon (https://www.rallysportdirect.com/part/shift-knobs/tom-32865s010s-tomei-duracon-shift-knob-black-70mm-short-m10x1-25)knobs, the one I got was 70mm in height. I can cut the rod down by upto 2 inches, but Im going to hold off doing that until I know for sure I like this knob. In order to cut it down, you'll need a M10 x 1.25 tap, which can be picked up at any Sears or hardware store. There is also a 90mm height version, which would hide more of the chrome rod.
