Ok so this is going to sound weird unless i explain but...
I want to make my 2006 legacy 2.5i limited a standard transmission car. The car was basicaly given to me so im going to use it no matter what but I just hate automatics....
Any way this is possible?

it would be easier to sell it and buy a 5MT car...tranny swaps are quite possibly harder than engine swaps.

Yeah, it's a 2006, find a used dealership and trade in...maybe have to spend a coupld hundred bucks compared to the high cost of an entire tranny replacement.

Plus you would totally lose any kind of factory warranty on the car.
No dealer in 500 miles would touch the car.

the only problem is the car has the limmited package and you cant get that with the 5 speed... Although i did consider trading it in.

If you traded in for a 5spd, you'd end up making some cash on it, providing you negotiate it right.

What's the diff with the limited package vs the non limited?

sunroof, leather, all kinds of unnecessaries ;)

Okay jhip, here's the deal:

You want a 5MT because you want to feel more connected to the road, you want more driver control, possibly more performance.

If you want all these things, you'll find that the "limited" package is just a waste of money and will become annoying, with the leather seats being easy to slide around on in corners, and the sunroof would make the car a little more top heavy (they're pretty heavy pieces of quipment, between the motor and the glass). If you can find a 2005 that a dealership is still trying to get rid of with a 5MT, then you could stand to make a profit on this, depending on how many miles you have on the car.

Right now the car has only 6800 miles on it. The limited has the following added...

Leather-trimmed upholstery
8-way power driver's seat with manually adjustable lumbar support
4-stage heated front seats
120-watt 6-speaker audio system with 6-disc in-dash CD changer
Dual-zone automatic climate control
Power tilt/sliding-glass moonroof
Projector-beam fog lights
Heated side mirrors and windshield wipers de-icer
Leather-wrapped shifter handle and 3-spoke steering wheel
Titanium metallic trim with woodgrain-patterned accents on doors and console

The 5speed comes with the special edition package -
8-way power driver's seat with manually adjustable lumbar support
Power tilt/sliding-glass moonroof

This really is a tough desision for me... I live in maine and the heated seats help out a lot when its -5F outside without the windchill. This isnt has much as a deal but Im really big into music and a good sounding system is a must. I could deal with putting a new system in if i had to but its more money...
I also never even thought about loosing the warranty

IMO, subaru "premium sound" sucks, aftermarket is way better (and possibly cheaper). I have 6.5" Polk 2 way db speakers in all four doors, plus an Eclipse deck, and they sound awesome! Another thing to think about is:

On the limited, the dual zone climate stops you from being able to put an aftermarket deck in the car, because the HVAC/Radio is all integrated, on the baseline GT, I do not believe this is the case.

Heated seats probably wouldn't be too hard of a modification.

I say trade that sucker in! :smt023

Ok so if i trade it in... the car is an 06. the car currently has 6800 miles on it. Wiscon_Mark, you said to go for an 05. How much, if any, difference is there between the 05 & 06?

www.kbb.com (http://www.kbb.com)

www.subaru.com (http://www.subaru.com)

find the trade in value on Kelly Blue Book

Look at prices at your local dealer (if they do in fact have 05s left) or check out Subaru.com for 06 5MT prices.

What about the design differences? You mentioned something about the radio not being conected to the climate control with baseline models. Is this the case? I have not been able to find pictures that show that the radio could be removed independently of the HVAC

if It doesn't have dual zone climate control then you can put an aftermarket deck in it (might require a little DIY, but its not the wiring nightmare it could be).

All the pictures ive seen of the 05 and 06 models have the air controlls atached to the radio unit. I did find this in another post however...

There are two double din faceplates that you can buy. Would this work? Replace the storage bin with a din faceplate then put an aftermarket radio in? Unless there is some really simple solution for the stock radio, i dont really want to tear into it.

oh, don't get me wrong, they're all attatched by that faceplate, however, ONLY the dual climate control has wiring mixed in with the stock reciever, therefore making it a wiring mess to sort through. The non-Dual Climate control ones are only connected by that faceplate, not hard to work around.

As for the second one, you're looking at a Japanese Legacy (B4 Blitzen probably) with a Navigation system (and thus RHD as it's Japan).
