Power steering 'surging' on long bends?

Anyone know the cause of this? If I for instance drive round a long curve, while I hold the steering wheel its as if an unseen gremlin is tugging on it every now and again! Its most disconcerting especially in the current slippery weather as it just feels like you have hit an ice patch and its hard to tell which is ice and which is this gremlin. Doesnt do it in a straight line, just round curves, either direction. (And does it on dry roads, its not ice)
Fluid is topped up and has no leaks. Belts are recent and not slipping

Check your alignment... I bet your tires are making the car wander.

No I had my alignment done recently. its not so much a wander as a sharp tugging at random, as though you have run over a big pebble for instance. I suppose its a pressure variation in the steering fluid but dont know what would cause it

I'm with huffer on this one, i don't think it has anything to do with your PS,

Heck i'd start with checking your tire pressure and making sure its not too low.

I'm still backing that your alignment or something to do with your tires isn't meshing. I had a perfect (really, all camber, angles etc) alignment done on my wife's Accord and on a sweeping bend (as is common here on a US highway) we will still get the pull/push through the steering column.

Changed the tires and the problem diminished somewhat, but it's still there.
