school me on interchangability of power steering racks

hey guys my rack is leaking more than Julien assange secret info.
i gotta replace it soon its pissing fluid on the headers and both boots are torn :-? . i can get a great deal on a 02 wrx rack. im not looking to buy an expensive quick rack because im on a budget. how ever i will be upgrading bushings. so what rack can i stick in there
with out changing my steering linkage. thanks fellas!!!

IIRC you need to use the generation specific rack in order to clear all obstacles and bolt your lines up properly.. That doesn't mean you cant use another rack you just have to customize the pump and lines... more work then its worth.. trade your old rack in for the core price and get a re-manufactured/rebuilt rack.... and be done with it..

95-99 and they use the 30mm steering rack bushings (25mm for RHD).. so this may be a good time to upgrade.

we swapped a 99 impreza 2.2 steering rack on my friends 96 2.2 legacy and it bolted right up.

I would think so since the Impreza was the same design from 93-01 and another post evidenced that they're interchangable. The GC and the BD were very interchangeable for parts.

The RS rack is noticeably faster than the legacy one, too.

Bump this because I'm about to order whiteline bushings and a new-ish rack and replace mine.



Do the WRX/Sti bushings fit? (They're listed as 30mm if I recall correctly), and 2 is there any way to test the rack before purchasing?
