Between 16 and 19 secs of my video it sounds like something is knocking, I'm wondering if its the start of Rod knock. Not alot of power in the motor climbing hills either. Lemme know your thoughts everyone.

As far as I know that is what is known as piston slap and a certain series of Subaru engines have it. My car sounds the same and the cold makes it much more pronounced. So maybe that is why you are just now noticing it.

My 04 has piston slap and when its cold out like this morning the dam thing sounds like a diesel truck. But after it warms up it quiets down a bit. i can still hear it and it bothers me, but so far everyone said its ok.

Actually, after watching your video just now, my car sounds just like that.

It's piston slap. Winter gas can do a number on these engines sometimes too.

I'm hoping that's what it is, there's people over on RS25 telling me it is Rod Knock. so just to be safe I'm gonna do a compression test to make sure, and will post the results.

Thanks for the help

Well I did my test, I'm getting 180 on cyls' 1,2 and 4 and 185 on 3 the one I thought was bad

but I'm not sure I did the test right, I did it 1 plug at a time and I see now I should have taken all plugs out. I also didn't disconnect the fuel pump.

Should any of this alter my results?

thanks

Josh

Valves need to be adjusted. Mine sounds the exact same way.

Sounds pretty normal. Subaru engines tend to be noisy due to the short piston skirts and generally large clearances throughout the engine.
