Tires cupping

I have been told by a shop that my tires are cupping and there is nothing that can be done for it. I took my 02 legacy in for a odd tire noise and that was the diagnosis. I either get new tires or suffer through the awful noise for another 30k.

What worries me is that if i do decide to get new tires what's stopping them from doing the same thing?

BTW, I have rotated them front to back every other oil change so it isn't a rotation issue. I also had them balanced at every rotation. Got to love Discount Tire!

Has anyone else with the same set up had any issues?
Rota G-Force 17x8 5x100 with Goodyear Eagle F1 225/45/17.

Check your tire pressures.

also just a rotation isnt always the answer. you can have them flipped. i.e. taken off the rim and the outside put to the inside.

Some tires are prone to cupping and making noise. Aggressive directional treads are the worst, and it can often be caused by hard cornering, it will cause the inside edge to wear.

I'd suggest having the alignment checked.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I will have to live with the noise. I have been running 32 front and 30 rear. Is that good?

Thats pretty close to stock pressure spec, so yeah its fine.

So I have been told that kuhmo and Yokohama are pretty good tires. The noise is just getting to be to much so I am looking at those brands based on friends recommendations. I am looking at getting the same size tire so all I need to know is which style of tire is good? I am looking for a all season tire.

Just get a set of Falken ZIEX 912s. You'll be happy with the quietness of those.

Those Falken Ziex 912s are an exellent choice. I have sold hundreds of sets with never a complaint or comeback. Get them at Sears and they sell for buy 3 get 1 free. Value-wise they are tough to beat. As for your cupping, the tires are toast. There is no resurrecturing them once that has started. Lack of rotation and worn struts are the 2 main culprits. You say they are rotated at every other oil change, Mark them next time just for sh!ts and giggles, see if they are actually doing it. Poor alignment would not be at the top of my list for the main reason for cupping, If it (alignment) was out it could contribute to it--possible yes/likely no.
