some of you(yall) know that i have this 99gt that nothing has gone as it should, i swear, this car is cursed. iv never had this much trouble/stupid mistakes with a car...ever.

so its sitting pretty in the front yard for sale, had lots of looky-loos no one has even asked me to start it, or the selling price, that denotes now serious they are to buy.

now, because of the hubbub of the holiday season, renovating my kitchen, and just generally being a basket case....ive lost the one, sole, only, copy of the key i had :smt013 :smt011 :smt012 :smt010 :smt009 :roll: :smt019 :smt018 :smt018 :smt021 :smt022 :smt014 :smt014 :smt014 :smt014

so...im keeping a weather eye out for that key, i put it somewhere i woudnt forget it..then perhaps thru that somewhere away...

anyway...

trying to wheel it into the back yard. no point to it killing the front grass if i dont have a key to sell it.

any thoughts on getting it into neutral so i can push it around back?...damn...steering lock, hadnt even thought of that....shit :smt021

want to get it around back and start parting if i cant find the key, or just get it around back and let it sit for a bit in hopes of finding the key.

Get a friends truck and push that bitch in the backyard. Or just break into the steering column and take the ignition off. That's if you plan on parting it out.

some cars are just cursed, but some only curse YOU. i had a car where nothing went right, and as soon as i sold it, it turned into a mild mannered puppy, all full o love for its new owner, little bugger, im glad its gone! :smt071 !!!!!

but anyway, do this.

call subaru, give them your vin and 12 dollars and get the key recut. lets all be calm here and use our heads, lol. they cut a key to my 89 justy a year or 2 ago, off of the vin. :smt023

I'm not how sure this will work on grass and dirt.. but you could get a set of wheel dollies and shove the car with a truck.
But I'm pretty sure cutting a key off the VIN number is a much cheaper and safer option.

Or if it's an automatic and the front wheels are directed in the way you need to go (steering would lock up if not) then just remove the little cover that covers the shift lock bypass next to your shifter. Pull up the ebrake or step on the brake, stick a screw drivers in there - press down and move the lever to neutral. Now the car can be moved.



If the steering is locked

Get it onto cement, jack it up from the middle of the car till the wheels are off the ground. Push it over (probably good to enlist the help of a couple buddies), chock the rear wheels and drop car down. Repeat. Don't forget to put it back in park when you got it to where you want it to go.

You could also get lucky and find someone with a similar car and their key might work. My 98 legacy key works for a friends 93 I think wagon.

ok, i found a locksmith that will make a key for me for $20 if i take off a lock cylinder and bring it to him..

he recommended one of the doors, but thres also a lock cylinder on the rear hatch thats ALOT easier to get to.

is it the same cylinder? i know some car companies used to use cheapy half cylinder type things back there..anyone know?

about to start taking it apart in 20 minutes or so, so lookin for thoughts.

ok, so, according the the locksmith the rear lock cylinder may or may not have the key code stamped on it, and also probably uses fewer pins than the locks in the doors/ignition.

got the lock cylinder out and got the key code, then called a dealer in colorado and got the key code as well, so in a few hours, and $20 bucks i should be in business.

im guess im still the kind of guy who quotes my self. why ddnt u just call in the vin, typically it's cheaper and easier. did you swap out the ign and/or the door lock cyls? if not, vin it, if you ddnt already take the locks out... :smt017

cause the dealer required proof of ownership...i didnt own the car, to own the car, i would have had to pay the state of fl $230+ in addition to the dealer charge of $22 if i remember right

$250 ish for a key, ill pass.

i got a local locksmith to cut the key off the pass door cylinder, so it cost me $20 plus an hour of fiddling around.
