I have a slight leak in my head gasket, so I intend on replacing it before it gets to bad. It was done about 40xxx miles ago, which was one reason I bought the car since it had all the paperwork and the gaskets had already been replaced, but it looks as if I need to do them myself. I am only 17, so I need a pretty complete guide to it, if anyone can point me to a link for that. Also what other parts do I need besides the head gasket? I will not do the water pump since it was replaced not to long ago, but I know I need the head gasket, spark plug gaskets? What else will there be? I am farley mechanical and have access to an engine hoist, and stand. How long does this usually take, I am home schooled, but I work full time, so I'd rather not take multiple days off to do this if I don't have to.

Thanks for the help

If you search on here, there are complete Factory service manuals. You can download them to your computer and use them at your own will. And you can get a whole gasket set that would contain everything you need. Just make sure you at least get Subaru Headgaskets. They are spendy, but are worth it.

And your also gonna have to probably pull the motor. I was thinking about doing the head gaskets in my car with the motor in, but there is no way.

A couple quick searches and you can have your questions answered. There is a ton of good info on here.

My bad, the car is an 01 outback. The timing belt was also done 40xxx miles ago, along with the waterpump when the head gaskets were done the first time. It's frustrating it's happening so soon again, but what can ya do. And yes, I plan on the pulling the motor, no way I'd try to do it in the car. It'd end in a big swearing match between me and the motor.
