So I'm in desperate need of new catalytic converters on my 2002 legacy sedan 2.5l ....a local on craigslist has a used OEM turbo back 02/06 wrx exhaust originally off a 05....the mid pipe, baffle, and muffler are included for 75$.
...So will it fit or what can I salvage from it to make it work?....if possible

The flange will need to be rotated and the mid-pipe (?) will need to be extended.

Also to add.. the rear hanger for the axle back has to be relocated a few inches...

You can get a universal cat and get an exhaust shop to make something like this for you

If you just want the cats from the WRX, just have them hack out your old cats and install the "new" ones.
Some shops will do this but won't install the new pipe on your car due to EPA restrictions. You can install it yourself though.

I'd assume you're OK as long as the Catalyst are still intact. They do become far less efficient over time and with use, so if the cats have a lot of miles on them they may not be very good.

I have the midpipe and axleback from an '06 WRX, so I can confirm that the midpipe will need to be extended, the flange(s) rotated, and you'll also need to relocate at least 1 exhaust hanger for the muffler to fit properly. It's really not a bad system for the money though, good deep sound, not too raspy, and inexpensive (when bought second hand).

I paid $40 bucks for mine, and my friend installed it for $90. He had to extend the midpipe about 6 inches and rotate the flange to mate up to my cat.

I had a shop install UEL header, a O2 bung extension, and a WRX muffler. the total cost for the install was $172. for the parts I payed $75 for the header, $9 for the extension, $25 for the WRX muffler and was going to get a glasspack for $50 installed but I parted the car b4 I could. muffler shops are cheep cheep cheep, and totally custom.

I recently found a stromung axle back on craigslist for 250 so im really hoping the guy still has it for sale, and perhaps buy it for less cuz its been there awhile...then for the cats I can get them both replaced for around 240 and o2 sensors for less than 100

The extension should be inserted after the catalytic converter and the mid-pipe.

You can see the new pipe welded in between the mid pipe and cats.. Mine is much longer then yours will be because I used the cat design posted above....

Sum this up.

Exhaust Manifold -> Catalytic Converters -> Mid-pipe -> Axle back (the pic above) -> muffler

If you found 2.25" piping off a WRX sedan and want to use it on your Wagon then you will need to extend the Muffler Tip by a few inches or bend the muffler hangers towards the bumper and add a few inches between the muffler and the axle back.

ah ok thanks Chuck.

guess my full 3" midpipe and axleback might need to get chopped up :(.

Ummm looks super sex but you got a turbo hidden in your engine bay? That size pipeing is massive and will kill your back pressure but I am sure you know this already..

Anyways I recommend Kartboy XL Hangers since that will definitely rub on your body / subframe

Decently affordable and super nice quality. I had to use these when i put a GT exhaust on my OB.. In stead of modifying the hanger length i just slapped some of these on.

yea i know it will kill back pressure but im not going anywhere quick. i just want the nice rumble of the boxer. yea i think i gotta order those since 3" looks like a tight fit.

I am not going to start another one of these 3" conversations. All I have to say is you knew before hand that this will cripple any performance gain and you knew that UEL headers on their own gives the boxer rumble.
