problem: I live in CO and snow is quite apparent on and off. I'm used to takin the subie out to open lots after storms for a lil driftin which accumlates quite a bit of snow and ice which I eventually melt/wash off. Well the snow is gone as of yesterday and this morning on the dry snow-free streets my abs will slightly kick in when I'm slowly coming to a stop. It only does it when I'm getting really close to under 5mph, not at high speeds. Did a sensor get iced over or need to get restarted? or did I mess something up and need to fix it asap? or possibly new brake components?

if it matters, my struts are practically gone and I'm about to replace my suspension in the next few days, but they've been pretty bad for the past few weeks and no abs problems, especially in past storms

also both my driver and passenger axles' boots are torn and should be replaced soon which I'm also doing in the next few days, but the boots have also been torn for a couple weeks

I don't know much about ABS, but if your boots are torn up they might have thrown grease on the ABS sensor. Just an idea.

Suspension and CV boots will not cause ABS issues.

ABS sensors are simple magnets that detect wheel rotations and have 2 wires + / -

Do all your wheels start to brake when coming to a stop or can you feel 1 wheel over another?

honestly chuck I can't "feel" which wheels. I just know the sound/vibration asssociated with abs, also no light is coming up when it gets triggered

^that link sounds exactly like my problem... but I dont know if I want to just pull the fuse and not worry about it or look into what part of the bearing or tone thingy is broken to fix it

You can get the factory service manual (fsm) from the literature section. Just browse the ABS PDF files and then make a decision. Unplugging the fuse or main connector to the pump will trigger the ABS light and disable ABS all together .. i did this with my BG and have been happy ever since, i really dislike ABS all together. But its your choice.

Typically false ABS activation at low speeds is caused by a failing speed sensor. What happens is you have 1 speed sensor that is putting out a weak signal, and the signal gets so weak at low speeds that it basically stops registering, which the ABS reads as a wheel stopping, which triggers the ABS.

To find the sensor at fault, you'll need to check the voltage output of each sensor individually while spinning the wheel.

Hm well I have brand new speed sensors in, I just took the fuse out and I'm happy lol thanks

Is it natural for the abs light to be on 100% of the time since I pulled the fuse for the abs?

Yes, it is warning you that the system is not activated.

Lol thanks, when I pulled the fuse yesterday I had paper blockin the light so I wasn't sure if the light had been on since I pulled oy
